The new Democratic agenda

Word for word:
Make Health Care More Affordable: Fix the prescription drug program by putting people ahead of drug companies and HMO’s, eliminating wasteful subsidies, negotiating lower drug prices and ensuring the program works for all seniors; invest in stem cell and other medical research.

Uh...drug companies make the rest possible..if you limit the profit, kiss the rest goodbye. Want better diagnosis..who pays for the research to create new technologies? Solve that conundrum. If you can do that I'll consider voting for you.

Lower Gas Prices and Achieve Energy Independence: Crack down on price gouging; eliminate billions in subsidies for oil and gas companies and use the savings to provide consumer relief and develop American alternatives, including biofuels; promote energy efficient technology.
Where's my hydrogen car?

Help Working Families: Raise the minimum wage; repeal tax giveaways that encourage companies to move jobs overseas.
Sounds good, what does that mean?

Cut College Costs: Make college tuition deductible from taxes; expand Pell grants and slash student loan costs.
That's fine, but what do they do when they graduate? How do plan to get out of the way of business so the fed govt doesn't screw it all up? Regulate industries' profits like drug companies?

Ensure Dignified Retirement: Prevent the privatization of Social Security; expand savings incentives; and ensure pension fairness.
I just DON'T see what's wrong with voluntary privatization without another light bulb going on to save the system

Require Fiscal Responsibility: Restore the budget discipline of the 1990s that helped eliminate deficits and spur record economic growth.
That's great, but how much of that surplus WAS the result of the internet technology bubble?

SOMETHING IS MISSING IN THIS PLAN

In every discussion I have had with my democratic friends (and I remind the reader that I remain one) they studiously avoid the idea that there is a world outside the USA (except for the Bushliedpeopledied crowd), while insisting how much they honor and support the US troops. It sounds so hollow, and so wrong considering the headlines in the last 24 hours, especially.

If we decry the republican lack of call for realiztion as to the root causes of the single war we really face on this planet, how dysfunctional is the democratic plan.

This plan is from the 90's

Further hideous evidence of this total blind spot is available. Consider the Boston Globe and their columnist Mr. Robert Kuttner (he of the total Osterized up misrepresentation of the history in DKG's endlessly interesting "Team of Rivals").

He finishes with attempted fluorishes at the galactically lacking portion of the national democratic agenda withi this incredible set of statements:

Democrats serious about national security are redefining what it means to protect America, and what it means to be a ``Defense Democrat." The dwindling Lieberman wing of the party and its enablers of George W. Bush have had a lock on that label for far too long.

A new generation of threats requires fresh thinking about real security and,in the spirit of tough realist liberals like Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and John Kennedy, credible leadership from Democrats. Belatedly, we just may get it.

Fella, I am second to no one in lauding the men who made the demcrats a national majority party, but FDR who attempted to pack the supreme court, interned the nissei, stomped on privacy and freedom of speech, and planned to go with Morgenthau's carthaginian peace for germany, and the Turman who nuked japan twice, chose the French over indepedence for Southeast Asia, attempted federal takeover of the steel industry, and fired off the entire cold war ARE EXACTLY the kind of men you, in the case of Lieberman, are complaining about.

Today those great men, and great presidents would be icons of xenophobic actions, war mongering international criminals, and ripped to shreds by the Nation, the NYT and your paper. Imagine what Harry Truman would have made of Kyoto and the International Court? Imagine what Harry Truman would have planned for the twerp in Iran and the well circling Hojatieh there?

The democrats at the national level, remain naieve and without a clue.

In short, the republicans absolutely SUCK, and the democrats SUCK WORSE So sorry, Nancy and Harry, but isn't that yet clear?

I agree with the aspect of "Democrats suck more" but Republicans do not suck. They have their own faults and short comings but they are very good foreign policy group and offer good initiatives for a thriving economy and economic success.
