Your Ariel Sharon quote has been 'snoped' by some very credible sites. i.e HE NEVER SAID ANY SUCH THING.This site among them. One has to wonder at your proclivity to simply BELIEVE such things at face value. Perhaps because they match an inner compulsion, like that of Mr. Rather, on Mr. Bush.

If you want to call FDR's actions AFTER the Japanese invasion of China (1931 onwards) and Indochina, the attack on the USS Panay, (all economic) "provoking" war, then everything that the most heinous of the hate america people say is true, and don't forget to add what would then be Lincoln's marvelous "manipulation" of the Confederacy from merely not allowing supplies to reach Ft Sumter, to outright attack.

Perhaps in assigning blame for the war you should look to items like the encouragement EVIL took from the 1935 vote of the effete Oxford club to "not fight for King and Country", or the craven Halifax's many comments. In 1898 we went to war with Spain over the explosion of the USS Maine, not land. We weren't ready. We attacked and invaded Iraq killing over 70,000 innocent civilians because Bush and Blair told us a pack of lies about WMD, they had in point of fact, long since been destroyed. Patrick Mercer should have listened to Hans Blix (the UN weapons inspector) when he begged Mercer and other members of the select committee to give him just six months more before waging war on Iraq. However Mercer was somewhat eager from the safety of his locality to vote for war and one can but wonder if he perceived, it could be the key to political advancement, for he knew that war was said to have been the making of a politician and on the back of the expected terrorist backlash Mercer made his name and reputation as an authority in such matters.

Patrick Mercer’s history is one steeped in intelligence operations and he had extensive contacts with the notorious covert military intelligence unit FRU, indeed it was alleged that he was himself an agent of the FRU. Perhaps, it could be said that he knew all along Iraq was no threat, but without the war, his expertise and chance of political advancement and his fixation that “above and beyond all else, the need for manpower in the armed forces” would be minimally successful.

Having already involved his country in an illegal invasion and being fully aware of the death toll of US and British soldiers and terrorist suicide bombers at home he now seems to want us to provoke a terrorist holocaust by attacking Iran. Doubtless such an attack would make journalists turn to him in droves and Mercer would be in his element criticising the government and organizing his own Captain Mannering Army complete with every British citizen becoming the “eyes and ears” in his network of spies.

The last thing we need right now is deceitful warmongering politicians inflaming an already precarious situation by invading Iran. So no, we are most decidedly not already involved in an “undeclared war with Iran” and the sooner the likes of Patrick Mercer, stop using inflammatory language to incite a war with Iran, the easer it will be for the people of this troubled country and Iraq to try to let sleeping dogs lie.
