Can someone tell me WHY we need a new logo?
Or who was hired to design it?
Or how much it cost?
Or what benefit this new logo brings?

nonessential necessities

Context?
Food is allowed in; Gazans aren't starving. But tight restrictions remain on construction materials for rebuilding homes and public buildings and on many of the nonessential necessities of life (Israel recently lifted the ban on cigarettes). Israel has suggested three conditions for lifting the siege to Hamas, which controls Gaza: no more rocket attacks against Israeli civilians, no arms smuggling into Gaza and the release of Gilad Shalit, the Israeli soldier kidnapped by Hamas in June 2006. The rocket attacks have pretty much stopped and the arms smuggling -- I am told -- is an issue that can be negotiated, but the fate of Shalit has been an insane sticking point.

binladen_glaciers.jpgUNBELIEVABLE... he's a wiener.

Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden has called in a new audiotape for the world to boycott American goods and the U.S. dollar, blaming the United States and other industrialized countries for global warming.

In the tape, aired in part on Al-Jazeera television Friday, bin Laden warns of the dangers of climate change and says that the way to stop it is to bring "the wheels of the American economy" to a halt.

He says the world should "stop consuming American products" and "refrain from using the dollar," according to a transcript on Al-Jazeera's Web site.

Phase two ... discriminate between political islamist aggression and speech, and Islam as worshiping God. Then make it stick with nation states.

joe-horses_ass03_copy_AMERICANS.jpgIf you don't buy this private product, you are a criminal (it's not a misdemeanor) and the govt will, in the final event, use all its power to enforce the mandatory purchase or collect the fine for failure to do so, and STILL require you to buy it.

Maybe we're lucky they haven't done the same with GM.

This 'reform' mandates at a minimum some 30 million more customers for companies whose outrageous charges are locked in each state without competition from each other. This 'reform' mandates that if you buy an EXCELLENT product in terms of how YOU benefit you must pay 40% taxes ADDITIONALLY.

Cost savings? This 'reform' provides for fees being collected FOR YEARS before the program goes into effect or it would BUST OUT the USA at the outset.

Cost savings? This 'reform' provides for geographically responsible committees to ENFORCE budgetary restraint thru this program and to decide how these restraints will be  ... effected. "You're too old to benefit from the diagnosis from this MRI Mrs. Smith, at 73, your QALYS and COMPLETE LIVES quotas shows you have enjoyed a full life already. Any result from this MRI would only yield another 5-7 QALYS for you at a cost 220% of that for someone 55." Was Ms. Palin right? It's WALMART supply and inventory costs and rules, and NO ONE CAN RESIST IN THE END. The buyer MUST in the end choose the least expensive alternative.

It is clear that the health insurance industry has succeeded in denying to Americans the benefits of what Verizon Wireless, Sprint, T-Mobile etc have discovered. Competition CRUSHES unjustifiably high pricing structures until all efficiencies have been enacted. The republicans should be SHOUTING this part of Jim DeMint's plan FROM EVERY ROOFTOP, on every interview, and at every soundbite.

Somebody is making a lot of money from all this.

Hispanic groups call for Census boycott
Some Hispanic advocacy groups are calling for illegal immigrants to boycott the 2010 Census unless immigration laws are changed. The move puts them at odds with leading immigrant rights advocates and creates another hurdle in the Census Bureau's quest to count everyone in the USA.

The National Coalition of Latino Clergy & Christian Leaders, a group that says it represents 20,000 evangelical churches in 34 states, issued a statement this week urging undocumented immigrants not to fill out Census forms unless Congress passes "genuine immigration reform."

Similar grass-roots campaigns are unfolding in Arizona and New Mexico to protest state and local crackdowns on illegal immigrants. Asking immigrants to be counted without giving them a chance to become legal residents counters church teachings, says the Rev. Miguel Rivera, president of the Latino religious coalition.

When the Census counts growing numbers of Hispanics, the counts are often used to support crackdowns on illegal immigrants, he says. About 38% of the churches' 3.4 million members are undocumented, he says. The Census Bureau does not ask people if they are here illegally.

If these people want in, there are laws to allow it.

I hope they are NOT counted.

CHANGE THE LAWS THEN COME IN.

If these people invade the land anyway, as criminals, knowingly, they have decided to GIVE UP the chance for American social services, scholarships, etc.

No free lunch.

Once again, this is not an immigration issue. This is secure borders. If the borders were secure, there would be NO illegal immigration and we could all talk about getting rid of the hideous ideas of 1924 intelligently.

Only our lax, and cynical behavior by those looking for votes, and cheap labor TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF, has resulted in this huge problem. No free lunch there either.

Perhaps on the unfortunate and awful day some Hizballoid who snuck in over the Mexican border (where we know they practice) detonates in LA or San Diego, or Amarillo and scores of illegals are killed, those latinos who might otherwise vote for the democrats whom they perceive to be in favor of no borders will rethink what this is all really about..

Can anyone say, modern version of the Volstead act? In a year the mob will control Dove, Ajax and Palmolive, Cascade and Electrosol distribution in Washington.
SITUATION COMEDY

HAPPY GAIA, MORONS

The quest for squeaky-clean dishes has turned some law-abiding people in Spokane into dishwater-detergent smugglers. They are bringing Cascade or Electrasol in from out of joe-horses_ass03_ecomorons.pngstate because the eco-friendly varieties required under Washington state law don't work as well. Spokane County became the launch pad last July for the nation's strictest ban on dishwasher detergent made with phosphates, a measure aimed at reducing water pollution. The ban will be expanded statewide in July 2010, the same time similar laws take effect in several other states.

But it's not easy to get sparkling dishes when you go green.

Many people were shocked to find that products like Seventh Generation, Ecover and Trader Joe's left their dishes encrusted with food, smeared with grease and too gross to use without rewashing them by hand. The culprit was hard water, which is mineral-rich and resistant to soap.

As a result, there has been a quiet rush of Spokane-area shoppers heading east on Interstate 90 into Idaho in search of old-school suds.

Real estate agent Patti Marcotte of Spokane stocks up on detergent at a Costco in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and doesn't care who knows it.

"Yes, I am a smuggler," she said. "I'm taking my chances because dirty dishes I cannot live with."

TO SAVE MOTHER EARTH, COMMENT HERE

An independent inspector general will look into the foreign financial ties of Chas W. Freeman Jr., the Obama administration's pick to serve as chairman of the group that prepares the U.S. intelligence community's most sensitive assessments, according to three congressional aides.

The director of national intelligence, Dennis C. Blair, last Thursday named Mr. Freeman, a veteran former diplomat, to the chairmanship of the National Intelligence Council, known inside the government as the NIC. In that job, Mr. Freeman will have access to some of America's most closely guarded secrets and be charged with overseeing the drafting of the consensus view of all 16 intelligence agencies.

His selection was praised by some who noted his articulateness and experience as U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia and a senior envoy to China and other nations. But it sparked concerns among some members of Congress from both parties, who asked the Office of the Director of National Intelligence's inspector general, Edward McGuire, to investigate Mr. Freeman's potential conflicts of interest.
...

Among the areas likely to be scrutinized in the vetting process are Mr. Freeman's position on the international advisory board of the China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC). The Chinese government and other state-owned companies own a majority stake in the concern, which has invested in Sudan and other countries sometimes at odds with the United States, including Iran.

Mr. Freeman is also president of the nonprofit educational organization Middle East Policy Council (MEPC), which paid him $87,000 in 2006, and received at least $1 million from a Saudi prince. He also has chaired Projects International, a consulting firm that has worked with foreign companies and governments.

Get ready to hear the jews stopped this one because of dual loyalties, and Likud-ophilia

'Maybe we should be happy it's not a (another) tax evasion in the upper echelons of the executive and/or the legislature, or state legistatures as well.

Can you imagine the chorus if Bush had named this sad line up of complete gavones? In fact he was praised for leaving in place, why... the head of the CIA, George Tenet, the appointee of Mr, Clinton, who missed, ignored, and bailed out on several > many shots at Al Qaeda. The he idiotically failed to fire him after 9/11 leaving him in place for the easy call on WMD in Iraq.

If anyone thinks for an instant we are not headed for LARGER debacles with these kinds of appointees, you better get yur heads on straight.

UN Suspends Aid to Gaza

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) announced Friday it will suspend its humanitarian aid to Gaza until further notice due to a Hamas raid on the agency's distribution center and a subsequent attack on an aid convoy.
flying_pig2.jpg
Hamas police attacked a convoy of trucks carrying humanitarian aid supplies from the agency's warehouse in Israel to its distribution center in Gaza on Thursday, stealing 200 tons of food, according to IDF Major Peter Lerner, spokesman for Israel's Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT).

The terrorist force also held up the UNRWA distribution store at Beach Camp in Gaza on Tuesday, stealing 3,500 blankets and 406 tons of food parcels intended for 500 impoverished families in the region. The raid was carried out after UNRWA staff had earlier refused to hand over the supplies to the Hamas-run Ministry of Social Affairs, according to the agency's Jerusalem-based spokesman, Chris Gunness.

Lerner confirmed the report that UNRWA had decided to suspend its aid to the region till further notice due to the thefts, both of which were carried out at gunpoint.

This is not the first time that Hamas terrorists have stolen humanitarian aid supplies meant for the poor in Gaza, according to the IDF. However, it was the first time they had looted from UNRWA, according to Gunness, who expressed the agency's disappointment with the group's actions.

UNRWA runs 221 schools and dozens of medical clinics in Gaza; the agency also distributes food packages and quarterly cash stipends to thousands of impoverished families throughout the region.
"It's all a joke" said  Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich of Illinois. "We could see the microphones.
Thumbnail image for blago_angel.jpg there were 11 in my office, 12 in my administrative assistant's Guido 'the ears' Santonomario, and every time we got off the phone there were 16 clicks and a booming echo. "I mean," the governor went on "how stupid did they think we really were"

"Every time someone came in for an appt  they had so much recording equipment on they all looked like hunchbacks"

"Sell a senate seat ? Who would buy it ? Everyone in Chicago and Illinois politics is too upright and straight for that ..just ask my consigliare, Schleumy 'the rod' Ezekial, besides, we could never keep any of this secret, and the Governor of Illinois has always been an exemplar of honesty and a buster of cooperation, er corruption. Say Schleumy, have you checked the freezer today for those, ah, ice cubes"

I mean, how can we believe this ? (it's in the NYT anyway, right?)

We have seen a lot of political hubris, scratch-my-back politics and sheer stupidity over the years. But nothing could prepare us for the charges brought Tuesday against Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich of Illinois.

The governor's administration was already under a well-publicized investigation into whether it has been selling appointments to state boards and commissions and awarding contracts and jobs in exchange for financial benefits and campaign contributions.

So what does the F.B.I. claim Mr. Blagojevich was up to while the feds were watching him? According to an F.B.I. affidavit, in recent weeks the governor plotted to sell off the United States Senate seat just vacated by President-elect Barack Obama to the highest bidder.

In exchange for his pick, authorities said Mr. Blagojevich was looking for a substantial salary for himself at a foundation or an organization affiliated with labor unions, a highly paid position for his wife on corporate boards, a cabinet post or ambassadorship for himself or promises of future campaign funds.

The affidavit also claims that the governor weighed the option of appointing himself

Thumbnail image for joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpg

should no financially lucrative offer materialize. All this was recorded on court-authorized wiretaps that any target of an investigation would have to assume were in place.

The United States attorney, Patrick Fitzgerald, was clear that the complaint makes no allegations against Mr. Obama. Indeed, it quotes Mr. Blagojevich cursing the president-elect and his team "because they're not willing to give me anything except appreciation."

Mr. Blagojevich also appears to be uncommonly sensitive to criticism for someone so apparently comfortable with bare-knuckle, and worse, politics. He was recorded telling aides to inform the Tribune Company, which filed for bankruptcy protection this week, that it would get no state assistance in selling off Wrigley Field unless it fired members of The Chicago Tribune's editorial board who had called for his impeachment.

Mr. Blagojevich, a Democrat, was elected in 2002 after pledging to restore honor to the Illinois governor's office. His predecessor, Republican George Ryan, was convicted on federal fraud and racketeering charges and is now in prison. Mr. Blagojevich has urged President Bush to reduce Mr. Ryan's sentence to time served as an act of compassion. It makes one wonder if the governor sensed that, somewhere down the line, he might need some of that compassion himself.

Mr. Blagojevich must be deemed innocent until proved guilty. But surely the recorded conversations, full of expletive-laced schemes, render him unfit to appoint anyone, least of all himself, to the vacant Senate seat.

If he refuses to step aside, the Illinois Legislature should move to bypass him by removing his appointment power, impeaching him or scheduling a special election. Certainly no self-respecting candidate should accept an appointment by Mr. Blagojevich.

Maybe we are schmucks

Non food-producing states in Gulf face shortages
ABU DHABI -- The Persian Gulf states have expressed concern over food shortages amongh their six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council.Officials said the GCC has been assessing the prospect of a food crisis and shortage in 2009. They said food shortages throughout North Africa and Asia could result in countries reducing exports to ensure that their nationals are fed.

"Food is becoming a more scarce commodity and with greater demand there could be serious shortages, especially in countries that do not produce food," an official said.

The GCC convened a seminar to prepare for any food shortage in 2009.

GCC representatives agreed to establish an independent body to monitor and recommend policy to avoid a food crisis.

lagavul2.jpg

"There should be a unified purchasing policy for essential foodstuff such as rice, wheat, sugar, oil, seeds, milk, and meat," a statement by the seminar read. "This would suit the policy of free competition and also not contradict the interests of the private sector."

The seminar urged GCC states to share food resources, similar to efforts to form a power and water grid. Representatives attributed the food shortage to the rising use of grain to produce biofuel.

Can you believe this crap? These people had a generation or more to bank an ocean of oil into an ocean of money. Given their minuscule populations there is absolutely NO excuse for anyone to be hungry for any reason in ANY of these nations INCLUDING IRAN

Other recommendations included the establishment of companies to invest in producing in GCC states. Officials said these companies would also ensure the import of sufficient food supplies to form a strategic reserve.

The seminar also called for the increase in resources for veterinary and insecticides services. Officials said GCC states must increase their scientific capability to establish a viable agricultural sector.

Where did all the the money go ?

A key U.S. Democrat made a renewed call on Monday for giving regulators the power to ban advertisements to consumers when a new medicine first reaches the market and risks are not fully known.

Thumbnail image for joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpgSo what he's saying is, we let drugs out for you to take and the amount and type of risks are somewhat unknown? But this way you can pretend that we are looking out for you by stopping those greedy industrialists from selling blood pressure medication as if it will regrow pubic hair..even though we are telling you point blank these guys are allowed by us to sell drugs with unknown risks?

Rep. Henry Waxman listed the idea as one of many he would like to pursue as chairman of the House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee after a new Congress convenes in January and starts to tackle a range of health-care issues.

"It is in these first few years of a drug's life that drug companies often aggressively market their products and engage in direct-to-consumer advertising. This increases the number of consumers exposed to safety risks of new products long before those risks are truly understood," Waxman said at a conference sponsored by The Prescription Project, a group critical of industry marketing.

What a total moron! Does he imagine that if you take Darvon if the manufacturer claims it changes your eye color, the risks are any different than if you take it for pain (the approved indication)?

What stupid grandstanding!

But you can't can you?
And in your miserable heart of hearts you know if you can get the Harry Reid bot saying this:

"While we take no satisfaction in loaning taxpayer money to these companies, we know it must be done."
You believe that in the end you'll get your money, get your way, keep your life and lifestyles, keep a couple of the Lears or G IV's and hope that SOMEHOW it will all straighten out on the backs of those who will try at all hazards to create success out the swimming thru oatmeal that success in the United States has become.

This used to be a hell of a country.

We no longer celebrate the fiscal rewards of invention of THINGS. Today our capitalist heroes are T Boone Pickens and Warren Buffett, and even Soros who use money as a commodity to leverage more money.

Where is the inventor of a motor that can carry us out this (Ayn Rand anyone)?
Where is the inventor of materials leading to efficient photo voltaic cells?
Fuel cells?
Batteries?

We are awash in a a sea of so called leaders who know how to GET money, not MAKE IT. We see those in leadership positions whose greed carry their demands to multiples of hundreds of the salaries of most of their employees and then face the Robin Hood socialist demands they give it all up for $1.

Is there anyone at all who has a clue?

If the auto corporations were so desperate for the money, they'd have eschewed the planes when it counted, and shown up THIS time in the midst of sweeping, irreversible reorganization, and management pressure on unions to do the same.

That they have NOT done so is abundant evidence that it is not within our power as a society to fix them.

They auto corporate management, the union management all must be swept away by the power of a judge. SWEPT AWAY.

Don't give them a cent.

Chapter 11 now.

No one said free enterprise, and freedom itself is without risk.

We all have to undergo the unpleasant trial, of nerves and emotions. Part of that trial is the lack of confidence we show every time we fail to have confidence in ourselves and cave in to another pleading bail out by selfish uncaring demands of 'emergency'

Show confidence in america and americans.

Shut them off. ALL OF THEM.

The day before Lebanese President Michel Suleiman began his visit to Iran, a pan-Arab daily reported that Tehran was preparing to offer the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) heavy weapons, including missiles (al-Hayat, November 23). Tehran believes the LAF can operate in a complimentary fashion with Hezbollah in organizing the defense of the country, though many Lebanese parliamentarians insist that Hezbollah must turn over its weapons to the LAF.

hezblaugh.jpg

Reports from Tehran state that Suleiman requested only medium arms from Tehran for national defense and the fight against terrorism and was not seeking heavy weaponry like missiles or jet fighters (Al-Nahar [Beirut], November 26; Tehran Times, November 26). Suleiman is a former commander of the LAF.

The security agreement signed at the end of Suleiman's Tehran visit, calls for Iran to supply Lebanon with arms and equipment for the next five years. The exact arms to be supplied will be determined in accord with a new national defense strategy (Al-Sharq al-Awsat, November 27; Naharnet, November 27). Lebanon's ongoing efforts to hammer out this new strategy were discussed at the talks with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Iran has supplied the Shiite Hezbollah movement with arms since the 1980s, but previous offers to supply the LAF have been rejected on national security grounds (Al-Ahram Weekly, November 27 - December 3). As part of Suleiman's visit, Supreme Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made a declaration that; "The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the power of all Lebanese groups should be at the service of the country's national unity in order to counter the danger of the Zionist regime" (al-Bawaba, November 25).

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak told parliament last week that Hezbollah now had 42,000 missiles, three-times the number it had at the beginning of the 2006 Israeli-Hezbollah war (BBC, November 24). Barak warned Lebanon that integrating Hezbollah into the Lebanese state, politically or militarily, will lead to Israel targeting Lebanon's infrastructure with "in-depth attacks in the event of a new conflict" (BBC, November 24).

Hezbollah leader Shaykh Hassan Nasrallah has urged the government to equip the LAF with anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons as part of the national defense strategy. Hezbollah made good use of the latter in the 2006 war with Israel (see Terrorism Focus, August 15, 2006). Nasrallah added that an army without anti-tank missiles was only a body "that deals with national security," adding; "Our army must be strong, and therefore must be well-trained and well-equipped, and not only with assault rifles and grenades" (Naharnet, November 12; Ynet, November 27).

At a recent meeting of the March 14 ruling coalition, Phalange Party leader and former president Amin Gemayel called for all weapons in the hands of Hezbollah or militant groups within the Palestinian refugee camps to be turned over to the state (Daily Star [Beirut], November 24). Other March 14 politicians have also opposed a deal for Iranian arms, which National Liberal Party leader Dori Chamoun described as "not sophisticated" (al-Manar, November 25). Shaykh Nasrallah and the Hezbollah leadership reject the idea of turning their weapons over to the LAF, claiming that to do so would weaken Lebanon's ability to protect itself against attacks from Israel in the absence of a national defense strategy.

Thumbnail image for joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpg

The United States has been heavily involved in reforming the LAF with hundreds of millions of dollars worth of arms supplied in the last few years. In mid-November, Lebanese authorities announced that the U.S. would supply the LAF with dozens of M60 "Patton" main battle tanks beginning in early 2009 (al-Nahar, November 21).  Israel operates over 700 upgraded versions of the M-60. Though Israeli officials expressed concerns that the M-60 might eventually end up in the hands of Hezbollah, it is important to note that the tanks would be easy prey for Israeli aircraft or even Israel's upgraded armor. Hezbollah has more interest in anti-tank weapons than tanks.

March 14 coalition leader Sa'ad Hariri told reporters that Moscow was willing to sell heavy weapons to Lebanon at "advantageous prices," following an early November visit to Moscow. Hariri criticized US supplies of light arms, saying that the LAF also need tanks and artillery (Vremya Novostey: November 9; Interfax, November 9). In turn, Lebanon will send a delegation of Lebanese businessmen to the Georgian breakaway republics of Abkhazia and North Ossetia, possibly as the first step in recognizing Russian-backed independence (Interfax, November 9).

Beirut may yet reverse its decision to accept Iranian arms supplies. Mixing arms from different sources would create many difficulties and cannot be viewed as a step forward in creating a national defense policy. If, however, Beirut proceeds, having Iran supply arms for both the LAF and Hezbollah may be an important step in their eventual integration.

Hezb'Allah is in charge of Lebanon. Arguments to the contrary seem delusional fantasies. This is all stupid. We should have nothing to do with this unless we are arming groups who will FIGHT the most popular man in the middle east, Hassan Nasrallah

Here is one of their"TOP" analysts:
RUSSIAN ANALYST PREDICTS DECLINE AND BREAKUP OF USA
Tue Nov 25 2008

A leading Russian political analyst has said the economic turmoil in the United States has confirmed his long-held view that the country is heading for collapse, and will divide into separate parts.
WTF is this moron talking about?

Professor Igor Panarin said in an interview with the respected daily IZVESTIA published on Monday: "The dollar is not secured by anything. The country's foreign debt has grown like an avalanche, even though in the early 1980s there was no debt. By 1998, when I first made my prediction, it had exceeded $2 trillion. Now it is more than 11 trillion.
About 9 months of the national GDP

This is a pyramid that can only collapse."

The paper said Panarin's dire predictions for the U.S. economy, initially made at an international conference in Australia 10 years ago at a time when the economy appeared strong, have been given more credence by this year's events.

When asked when the U.S. economy would collapse, Panarin said: "It is already collapsing. Due to the financial crisis, three of the largest and oldest five banks on Wall Street have already ceased to exist, and two are barely surviving. Their losses are the biggest in history. Now what we will see is a change in the regulatory system on a global financial scale: America will no longer be the world's financial regulator."

When asked who would replace the U.S. in regulating world markets, he said: "Two countries could assume this role: China, with its vast reserves, and Russia, which could play the role of a regulator in Eurasia."
Of course Russia's economy depends on commodity prices, and the ability to enforce economic (via oil and gas commodities) and political blackmail, and the demise of demand denudes them of this, and China's vast reserves are nearly totally dependent on the demand of the American consumer. Otherwise, no problem.

Asked why he expected the U.S. to break up into separate parts, he said: "A whole range of reasons. Firstly, the financial problems in the U.S. will get worse. Millions of citizens there have lost their savings. Prices and unemployment are on the rise. General Motors and Ford are on the verge of collapse, and this means that whole cities will be left without work. Governors are already insistently demanding money from the federal center.

Dissatisfaction is growing, and at the moment it is only being held back by the elections and the hope that Obama can work miracles.

WTF is this moron talking about?

But by spring, it will be clear that there are no miracles."

He also cited the "vulnerable political setup", "lack of unified national laws", and "divisions among the elite, which have become clear in these crisis conditions."
WTF is this moron talking about?

He predicted that the U.S. will break up into six parts - the Pacific coast, with its growing Chinese population; the South, with its Hispanics; Texas, where independence movements are on the rise; the Atlantic coast, with its distinct and separate mentality; five of the poorer central states with their large Native American populations;
and the northern states, where the influence from Canada is strong.
WTF is this moron talking about?

He even suggested that "we could claim Alaska - it was only granted on lease, after all."

WTF is this moron talking about?
Panarin, 60, is a professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has authored several books on information warfare.
BTW, if this moron got his OBVIOUS WISH, all commodity prices on the planet would probably drop 50-70%, and the ensuing financial chaos would probably cause such hunger in Russia the leaders would be barbecued.

No one would like what comes after the USA.

No one.

Thus quoteth STEYN:

I didn't think I could like Sarah Palin more than I do, but the nancy boys at MSNBC bleating all over the screen about the Great Turkey Carnage is hilarious. This is a great caption:

TURKEYS DIE AS GOVERNOR PALIN TAKES QUESTIONS FROM MEDIA

Or was it: MEDIA DIE AS GOVERNOR PALIN TAKES QUESTIONS FROM TURKEYS.

After she's sworn in in 2013, I hope President Palin arranges for a ritual turkey slaughter to be going on behind her at every press conference, if only during David Shuster's questions.

Tim Blair has a good round-up of reaction.

"bloodlusting bird-hater Palin admits she'll actually cook a turkey for Thanksgiving"

Wonkette labels this a "celebration of death". Writes one commenter: "She is the dumbest whore I have ever seen."

I mean, this is just great stuff. Great !
The puking vegan masses are appalled as soy molded textured vegetable white to beige caulking injected protein bird like apparitions, I'm sure, are outselling turkeys this week.
Indeed, while I certainly don't agree with her on a few things, she is becoming quite dear to me as more of these deranged delusional foaming spit speckled attacks go on.
This has to be one the greater stories leavening the economic grimness this week

Cue C3PO.

NYT:
Congressional Democrats prepare to move forward with investigations of the Bush administration

"The Bush administration overstepped in its exertion of executive privilege, and may very well try to continue to shield information from the American people after it leaves office," said Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island, who sits on two committees, Judiciary and Intelligence, that are examining aspects of Mr. Bush's policies.

Topics of open investigations include the harsh interrogation of detainees, the prosecution of former Gov. Don Siegelman of Alabama, secret legal memorandums from the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel and the role of the former White House aides Karl Rove and Harriet E. Miers in the firing of federal prosecutors.

Mr. Bush has used his executive powers to block Congressional requests for executive branch documents and testimony from former aides. But investigators hope that the Obama administration will open the filing cabinets and withdraw assertions of executive privilege that Bush officials have invoked to keep from testifying.

"I intend to ensure that our outstanding subpoenas and document requests relating to the U.S. attorneys matter are enforced," said Representative John Conyers Jr., Democrat of Michigan and chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. "I am hopeful that progress can be made with the coming of the new administration."

Also, two advocacy groups, the American Civil Liberties Union and Human Rights First, have prepared detailed reports for the new administration calling for criminal investigations into accusations of abuse of detainees.

Thumbnail image for joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpg

Hello out there, Thomas Jefferson would have scoffed at people whose murder of Americans, and desire to convert and murder the rest for RELIGION, was the cause for them to claim the rights and protections of Americans. Hamilton would not even give such people the recognition of attention.Franklin would have ridiculed them as the fools they are. In fact such human rights organizations would do well to consider that if we breed the men and women who seek to serve, and do so, and then risk their lives to save ours, most Americans would probably wish to see such people serve us by eliminating these murderers OVER THERE and do away with any consideration of rights. After all, IT IS WAR. Now you wish to investigate for politically motivated revenge and grandstanding? There will be violence at the end of all this, HERE. In our cities and towns. Waxman, Dingell, Conyers, et al would well to consider the fates of the leaders of the Optimates and those 'for the people' in an earlier republic. They should look to the result of that as well. They are ALL on the same path.

It is not clear, though, how a President Barack Obama will handle such requests. Legal specialists said the pressure to investigate the Bush years would raise tough political and legal questions.

Because every president eventually leaves office, incoming chief executives have an incentive to quash investigations into their predecessor's tenure. Mr. Bush used executive privilege for the first time in 2001, to block a subpoena by Congressional Republicans investigating the Clinton administration.

In addition, Mr. Obama has expressed worries about too many investigations. In April, he told The Philadelphia Daily News that people needed to distinguish "between really dumb policies and policies that rise to the level of criminal activity."

"If crimes have been committed, they should be investigated," Mr. Obama said, but added, "I would not want my first term consumed by what was perceived on the part of Republicans as a partisan witch hunt, because I think we've got too many problems we've got to solve."

Judge Bans Use Of "Illegal" and "Aliens"

Arizona's Supreme Court Justice has agreed to enforce the Hispanic Bar Association's demands of banning the terms "illegal" and "aliens" in all of the state's courtrooms.

Claiming that the terms are inflammatory, the president of Arizona's Hispanic Bar Association, (known as Los Abogados) has asked state Supreme Court Chief Justice Ruth McGregor to stop using them at trials or hearings because they create perceptions of judicial bias.

joe-horses_ass03_mcgregor.jpgIn a strongly worded letter to the chief justice, Los Abogados' president says attaching an illegal status to a person establishes a brand of contemptibility, creates the appearance of anti-immigrant prejudice and tarnishes the image of courts as a place where disputes may be fairly resolved.

It further points out that no human being is illegal and that a national Hispanic journalism association has roundly criticized the reference for dehumanizing a segment of the population. The letter goes on to criticize the state's High Court for using the term "illegals" in at least two opinions and the term "illegal aliens" in dozens of others.

It concludes with a list of acceptable and unacceptable terms relating to illegal immigration. Among those the group wants banned are; immigration crisis, immigration epidemic, open borders advocates, anchor babies and invaders. Among the acceptable terms are foreign nationals, unauthorized workers and human rights advocates. CHAVEZ:

CARACAS (Reuters) - Socialist Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez mocked George W. Bush as a "comrade" on Wednesday, saying the U.S. president was a hard-line leftist for his government's intervention of major private banks in the U.S. financial crisis.

Chavez, who calls capitalism an evil and ex-Cuban leader Fidel Castro his mentor, ridiculed Bush for his plan for the federal government to take equity in American banks despite the U.S. right-wing's criticism of Venezuelan nationalizations.

Thumbnail image for joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpg

"Bush is to the left of me now," Chavez told an audience of international intellectuals debating the benefits of socialism. "Comrade Bush announced he will buy shares in private banks."

KHAMENEI:

Iranian leaders say the world financial crisis indicates the end of capitalism, the failure of liberal democracy and divine punishment -- marking the superiority of the Islamic republic's political model.

"The school of Marxism has collapsed and the sound of the West's cracking liberal democracy is now being heard," supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Monday, recalling the fate of the Soviet Union.

AUSTRALIA:
The global economic crisis is a result of the "comprehensive failure of extreme capitalism," Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said Wednesday as he took aim at bulging executive pay packets.

The centre-left Labor Party leader named greed and fear as the "twin evils" at the root of the financial sector collapse, which began in the United States and swept the world.

"What we have seen is the comprehensive failure of extreme capitalism -- extreme capitalism which now turns to government to prevent systemic failure," Rudd told the National Press Club in Canberra.

If we, the american consumer, continue as we have last month and simply spend only on what we need, and cut down on that, we will probably cause such a catastrophic economic deflationary worldwide depression, that these complete morons, ignorant of the historic NECESSITY of business cycles, would be swept away by populations who would be respectively, hungry and poverty ridden and oppressed, hungry and poverty ridden and oppressed, and finally intolerant of morons.

And the corollary is that oil will be less than $50/barrel.

It would almost be worth it, because no matter WHAT level this world settles at, it will be the polyglot uncultured people of the USA that still retain the edge (looked at the rate of T bill purchases lately?) to recover FIRSTEST WITH THE MOSTEST, and raise the ocean level for allied boats , and it would be amid the heavily damaged economies of those inimical to us, whose systems simply do not work as well as ours
What a farce ! I wonder if Frank sees the irony at all as he blames republicans for deregulation being the cause, as well

Rep. Barney Frank said Monday that Republican criticism of Democrats over the nation's housispit-take.jpgng crisis is a veiled attack on the poor that's racially motivated.

The Massachusetts Democrat, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said the GOP is appealing to its base by blaming the country's mortgage foreclosure problem on efforts to expand affordable housing through the Community Reinvestment Act.

He said that blame is misplaced, because those loans are issued by regulated institutions, while far more foreclosures were triggered by high-cost loans made by unregulated entities.

"They get to take things out on poor people," Frank said at a mortgage foreclosure symposium in Boston. "Let's be honest: The fact that some of the poor people are black doesn't hurt them either, from their standpoint. This is an effort, I believe, to appeal to a kind of anger in people."

Frank also dismissed charges the Democrats failed on their own or blocked Republican efforts to rein in the mortgage companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The federal government recently took control of both entities.

House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio called Frank's remarks "a lame, desperate attempt to divert Americans' attention away from the Democratic party's obstruction of reforms that would have reined in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and

Thumbnail image for joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpg

helped our nation avoid this economic crisis."

"Congressman Frank should retract his ridiculous statements and start taking responsibility for the role he and other top Democrats played in putting Main Street Americans in this mess," Boehner said.

Frank said Republicans controlled Congress for 12 years and passed no regulation, while Democrats passed a Bush administration Fannie and Freddie regulation package since gaining control of the House and Senate in January 1997.

"If I could have stopped a Republican bill during the Bush years, I would have started with the war in Iraq. Then I would have gone to the Patriot Act. Then I would have gone on to the hundreds of millions in tax cuts," said Frank, to applause from the audience.

The longtime congressman is being challenged this fall by both Republican and independent candidates. He has been criticized in his liberal district for being one of the leaders of congressional efforts last week to win approval of a $700 billion Wall Street bailout plan.

When I first heard that Sarah Palin was invited to the STOP IRAN rally, I thought 'what a great idea to have both Hillary and Sarah together for a few minutes without whacking away at each other'. Instead the OPPORTUNITY to act purely as Americans in America's interest against what can't be anything other than evil dissolved instantly into the mire and butcher's gore of partisan hideousness. Hillary made the 2nd largest mistake of her career, and I think people will remember. There is NO REASON the organizers could not have made clear this was not a poltical event and had both women there to make the point - IN UNITY, as Americans.

We are in real trouble.

Chart from Drudge:
stocks 9_22_08.jpg
So how many days will the republicans and democrats in Congress dither as if they are 535 Nero's?

Many predictions were made that if the govt did nothing at all the natural market corrections would drop the DOW (now without AIG) to ~8300.

I heard one moron claim this bailout was the 'largest single executive power grab in history'. Are you kidding me? Does anyone imagine an outgoing George Bush, worried he will be remembered in all history for a 2nd great depression which guts our ability to win the war against islamofascists is involved in some nefarious power grab? I can believe incompetent, but PLEASE. This is iconic of congress today. For a week use your brains up there, not your hindbrains.

We are already at the point where taking care of this problem, will if either candidate is truthful, acknowledge that whatever plans they had, they will now have as their compulsory priority managing this monster to a profitable conclusion for us all. There is simply NO ALTERNATIVE

Health Care? Where is that money coming from? That' a joke. Want more F-22's to safeguard the nation? How are you going to provide the additional funds? More brigades to help an overstretched army? Who balances the checkbook?

It now appears we will get the worst of both worlds. Congress, mired in squalid squabbling over who to execute partisan blame upon, will take all week or longer and the market will be just above that level (8300) or worse, and then suddenly get religion and create the more usual idiotic patchwork of common sense and committee stupidities, too late and without resolution.

Ladies and gentlemen in the Capitol bldg, GET IT TOGETHER.

Anyone else wonder about a 3rd and 4th party?

Think a single one of the congressmen or senators depend on their bi-weekly paycheck for heating oil, electricity, food and the car payment?

We are being ill served across the board, executive and legislative, democrat and republican.

In my mind's eye, I keep seeing crates of tea in the harbor. That's how I am beginning to see all this.

When banks can no longer lend, when sovereign funds have all dumped their T-bills, when money market runs create panic and disorder in the streets, and near the malls, and in the suburbs, when we can't imagine where to send the mortgage checks and oil is at $250/barrel because capital seeks security, when supermarkets raise their prices every day or worse to keep up with the changes as commodities rocket upwards, and heating oil dealers go broke because they extended credit to customers who lost their jobs because the marketing plan is in the garbage and the entire dept was let go, when there is no confidence in America to solve it's own problems or stabilize the world, what will any of them in DC have to say then, ?

It was the other guy's fault?

So here it is, fund what needs to be funded, extend time to mortgagees, lock the CEO and other "C" pay to a multiplier of MEAN PAY for a given corporation for a fixed time, and eliminate TOTALLY retirement "plans" which amount to setting up a family and all their descendants unto all generations.

Don't tie the bill to ANYTHING ELSE.
UGH !!!

British minister says Palin is 'horrendous'
A British government minister attacked Republican US vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin as "horrendous" at the Labour Party conference on Saturday.

Always good for bi lateral relations

The outburst from Communities Secretary Hazel Blears threatens to undermine Prime Minister Gordon Brown's determination for the British government to maintain a neutral position in the US presidential election.

Speaking at a fringe meeting of the centre-left party during its annual party conference in Manchester, Blears said Palin was capitalising on people's disillusionment with regular politics.

"I just think there is so much anti-politics -- not just in tblears_hazel.jpghis country but around the world," Blears said.

"One of the reasons why Sarah Palin has been such a phenomenon is because she's anti-politics, anti-Washington.

"Her politics are horrendous, but actually she's struck a chord with people -- 'I'm a maverick, I'm not part of those powerful people' -- and people identified with that."

I just cannot wait until they meet

Palin, the strongly anti-abortion governor of Alaska, has boosted Republican candidate John McCain's fortunes since being named his surprise choice as running mate.

She has previously remarked that US soldiers in Iraq were being sent on a task from God.

Earlier this month, Brown denied favouring either McCain or Barack Obama in the US presidential race, despite writing an article in which he appeared to back the Democrats.

He rejected allegations of bias after a magazine article in which he said it was "the Democrats who are generating the ideas".

FIRST Matt Damon, now Pamela Anderson has spoken out against Republican Thumbnail image for joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpgvice presidential nominee Sarah Palin saying:"I can't stand her. She can suck it!"

When asked by E! News Weekend Canada about Palin, she has some choice words for the Republican hopeful. The reporter asked Pam if she saw a recent Newsweek article, which showed a gigantic bear hide in the office of Palin's house.

"I can't stand her," Pam blurted out. "She can suck it!"

World wants Obama as president: poll

Posted 4 hours 37 minutes ago

US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama may be struggling to nudge ahead of his Republican rival in polls at home, but people across the world want him in the White House, a BBC poll said.

All 22 countries covered in the poll would prefer to see Senator Obama elected US president ahead of Republican John McCain.

In 17 of the 22 nations, people expect relations between the US and the rest of the world to improve if Senator Obama wins.

worldwants.jpg

More than 22,000 people were questioned by pollster GlobeScan in countries ranging from Australia to India and across Africa, Europe and South America.

The margin in favour of Senator Obama ranged from 9 per cent in India to 82 per cent in Kenya, while an average of 49 per cent across the 22 countries preferred Senator Obama compared with 12 per cent preferring Senator McCain. Some four in 10 did not take a view.

"Large numbers of people around the world clearly like what Barack Obama represents," GlobeScan chairman Doug Miller said.

A total of 23,531 people in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Nigeria, Panama, the Philippines, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Turkey, the UAE, Britain and the United States were interviewed face-to-face or by telephone in July and August 2008 for the poll.

Turkey?

Nigeria?

Panama?

I hope I have a complete benign neglect for any preference they have, I know I insist on this from them where we are concerned.

When Sarah arrives in Kenya and knocks off a charging rhino with her buck knife, they'll feel differently

Well, I don't know about you, but I think we send 765 to the CIA (Culinary Institute of America on a full boat), 844 to the Columbia School of Journalism, and 632 to FITTV. Iran: Missile drill causing massive Israeli emigration

Iran continues to enjoy the dubious success of the military missile drill, which the Islamic Republic's Revolutionary Guard held last week. The Iranian news agency IRNA reported to the country's residents on Monday that the Israelis were so terrified by the display of power that it has sparked a mass emigration.

House passes bill to sue OPEC over oil prices

Tue May 20, 2008 2:27pm EDT

By Tom Doggett

bozoUSA_420w.jpg

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved legislation on Tuesday allowing the Justice Department to sue OPEC members for limiting oil supplies and working together to set crude prices, but the White House threatened to veto the measure.

The bill would subject OPEC oil producers, including Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela, to the same antitrust laws that U.S. companies must follow.

The measure passed in a 324-84 vote, a big enough margin to override a presidential veto.

The legislation also creates a Justice Department task force to aggressively investigate gasoline price gouging and energy market manipulation.

"This bill guarantees that oil prices will reflect supply and demand economic rules, instead of wildly speculative and perhaps illegal activities," said Democratic Rep. Steve Kagen of Wisconsin, who sponsored the legislation.

OKAY doofuses ..how will you collect? Seize private property of the Al Saud, Al Sabah and Sultan of Brunei? Freeze sovereign bank assets NOW, before this hits the courts?

Think this will help trade?

How'd you like to be the defense lawyer for this one?

You never be able to go out to dinner again, or to a game.

'Bush intends to attack Iran before the end of his term'

US President George W. Bush intends to attack Iran in the upcoming months, before the end of his term, Army Radio quoted a senior official in Jerusalem as saying Tuesday.

Thumbnail image for joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpg

The official claimed that a senior member of the president's entourage, which concluded a trip to Israel last week, said during a closed meeting that Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney were of the opinion that military action was called for.

However, the official continued, "the hesitancy of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice" was preventing the administration from deciding to launch such an attack on the Islamic Republic, for the time being.

The report stated that according to assessments in Israel, recent turmoil in Lebanon, where Hizbullah de facto established control of the country, was advancing an American attack.

Bush, the officials said, opined that Hizbullah's show of strength was evidence of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's crowing influence. They said that according to Bush, "the disease must be treated - not its symptoms."

In an address to the Knesset during his visit here last week, Bush said that "the president of Iran dreams of returning the Middle East to the Middle Ages."

"America stands with you in firmly opposing Iran's nuclear weapons ambitions," Bush said. "Permitting the world's leading sponsor of terror to possess the world's deadliest weapon would be an unforgivable betrayal of future generations. For the sake of peace, the world must not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon."

Another actually funny news story from the David Irving of nations, Iran. The "Iranian" is the president of the nation, in case you can't guess.

Iranian casts doubts on Sept. 11 attack, ground zero deaths

By ALI AKBAR DAREINI, Associated Press Writer 36 minutes ago

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad cast doubt Wednesday over the U.S. version of the Sept. 11 attacks, calling it a pretext used to invade Afghanistan and Iraq.

tinfoil1.jpg

Although Iran has condemned the 2001 al-QaidaNew York and Washington in the past, this was the third time in a week that Ahmadinejad questioned the death toll, who was behind the attacks and how it happened.

"Four or five years ago, a suspicious event occurred in New York.

Maybe he should go in to stand up, or appear on Maher.

A building collapsed and they said that 3,000 people had been killed but never published their names," Ahmadinejad told Iranians in the holy city of Qom.

Thumbnail image for joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpg

Sorry but I remember being on a treadmill and hte entire gym came to a halt while the names of the death were read on the 1st anniversary of 9/11. People think Bush is stupid?

Under this pretext, the U.S. "attacked Afghanistan and Iraq and since then a million people have been killed only in Iraq," Ahmadinejad said in the speech broadcast live on state-run television.

On the last anniversary of the attacks, the names of 2,750 victims killed in New York were read aloud at a memorial ceremony.

In Washington, the State Department rejected the comments out of hand, calling them "another example of misinformed misguided rhetoric" from the Iranian leader.

I'm not who is more stupid, Achmadinejad or the State Dept in the way they characterize this

"I am not sure what one says about a statement like that," spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters. "It leaves one speechless. It is misguided, misinformed rhetoric. I can't tell you whether or not it is something he truly believes or if this is just a warped attempt to try to shape public opinion in Iran or elsewhere."

Last year, Ahmadinejad raised questions over the attacks, saying "what caused it, what were the conditions that led to it, who truly was involved" needed to be examined.

Ahmadinejad has said the attacks were a result of "mismanaging and inhumane managing of the world by the U.S." and should not be turned into another Holocaust "used for slaughtering people."

Although Iran has condemned the U.S. invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, the campaigns toppled the Taliban and Saddam Hussein, two regional threats to Iran.

Report: Jimmy Carter to Meet With Hamas Leader in Syria

NEW YORK CITY --  Former President Jimmy Carter is reportedly preparing an unprecedented meeting with the leader of Hamas, an organization that the U.S. government considers one of the leading terrorist threats in the world.

Thumbnail image for joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpg

The Arabic-language newspaper Al-Hayat reported Tuesday that Carter was planning a trip to Syria for mid-April, during which he would meet with Khaled Meshal, the exiled head of the Palestinian terror group Hamas, on April 18.

Take a deep breath and consider the source. Unless this is a mission undertaken for George Bush, this should, IF TRUE, be slammed from one end of the govt to another. One day there will be nothing to stop George Bush from making a visit which will help trash any plans a democratic president has.

Deanna Congileo, Carter's press secretary, confirmed in an e-mail to FOXNews.com that Carter will be in the Mideast in April.

Pressed for comment, Congileo did not deny that the former president is considering visiting Meshal.

"President Carter is planning a trip to the Mideast next week; however, we are still confirming details of the trip and will issue a press release by the end of this week," wrote Congileo. "I cannot confirm any specific meetings at this point in time."

Meshal, who lives in Syria to avoid being arrested by the Israeli government, leads Hamas from his seat in Damascus, where he is a guest of Bashar al-Assad's regime.

The State Department has designated Hamas a "foreign terrorist organization," and some groups hold Meshal personally responsible for ordering the kidnapping of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack once said of the prospect of meeting with Meshal, "That's not something that we could possibly conceive of."

Some Carter critics called the latest reports typical of the ex-president.

"It's about par for the course from President Carter, demonstrating a lack of judgment typical of what he does," said John Bolton, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. "To go to Syria to visit Hamas at this point is just an ill-timed, ill-advised decision on his part."

"I'm not surprised that Carter would do this, as he has been supporting Palestinian extremism for many years," said Steve Emerson, director of the Investigative Project on Terrorism, a watchdog group.

Carter would be the first Western leader of his stature to meet with the Hamas chief. Though Meshal met with Clinton officials in the 1990s, the Bush administration has sought to isolate Hamas, enforcing rigid sanctions on its government in Gaza and refusing to meet with its leaders unless it recognizes Israel and abandons terror.

"I think this [visit] undermines the U.S. policy of isolating Hamas," said Emerson. "I think this encourages Europeans to further dilute their sanctions against the Hamas government."

"When you put the prestige of a former president of the United States in a meeting with one of its terrorist leaders, you're giving it a legitimacy and currency it never had," said Bolton.

But Ibrahim Hooper, communications director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a non-profit advocacy group, said Carter's efforts demonstrate he's a true partner in peace.

No, like Richard Nixon, an unindicted co conspirator, and unlike Richard Nixon, in a TERRORIST case, and unlike Richard Nixon connected to the Muslim Brotherhood

"I think if true, this report would indicate that President Carter is willing to travel any road in search of peace," he said. "I think President Carter would only undertake such a mission if he believed that something could be achieved in terms of peace and reconciliation in the region."

Hooper added that because of Carter's reputation among Palestinians he might be able to bring some pressure to bear.

"Obviously President Carter has a great amount of credibility in the region because of his past efforts seeking peace internationally," Hooper said.

The Al-Hayat report stated that Carter would be traveling in his capacity as head of the Carter Center, and not in his capacity as a former president.

"That's a distinction that's absurd," said Emerson.

"Maybe he'll give up his pension, but he's always a former president," said Bolton.

Singing sheep show for Al Jazeera

The Baaas sheep family
Baaas aims to give youngsters a taste of a wide range of musical styles

S4C and a Welsh TV production company are joining forces with an Arabic channel to produce a children's series about a singing sheep family.

Baaas will air in Welsh this autumn and in Arabic in early 2009, when the Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera launches its own children's channel.

It is thought this is the first UK collaboration for the Arabic channel.

Baaas was first sold to Al Jazeera in 2006 and the Welsh fourth channel said it values their "new relationship".

The two TV channels with begin work next month with Cardiff-based Cynyrchiadau Ceidiog Creations, on a the 52x15-minute series of the pre-school show about an extended family of all-singing, all-dancing multi-racial (anti zionist anti imperialist ?) sheep.

Cue the rabbit....as for the post title reference, why, children, you must know the story of the 4000 jews who stayed home from the WTC on 9/11, they entered the zionist machine in time to put sheep's blood on the lintels of every jewish household in Egypt, so that very special early zionist, the angel of death knew which houses to skip.

World Trib: GAZA CITY -- The Hamas regime has sought to control one of the last Fatah-dominated institutions in the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian sources said the Hamas regime has sent operatives to take over Al Azhar University. The university, located Gaza City, has been a Fatah stronghold for nearly 30 years and resisted the Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip in June 2007.

"Hamas sees Al Azhar as the last bastion of Fatah in the Gaza Strip," a Palestinian activist said. "All the other Fatah institutions have either been destroyed or went underground."

On March 31, Hamas sent operatives to storm Al Azhar and capture the student administration.

I'm sure it was just like Columbia in 68.

Witnesses said members of the Hamas-sponsored Islamic Bloc raided the university, detained security guards and assaulted teachers and students.

Bodes well for academic freedom.

At that point, the operatives began decorating the university with Hamas flags and posters to memorialize Hamas founder Ahmed Yassin, assassinated by Israel in 2003.

Al Azhar vice president Jaber El Da'our said he and several aides responded to the Hamas takeover. When they arrived on campus, El Da'our said, the Hamas operatives began harassing the university administrators.

"The teachers and I decided to stay away from them and their ceremony,"

Thumbnail image for joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpg

El Da'our recalled.

Effing A right, I bet.

"However, they pursued us again and started to assault us till we left campus. We demonstrated near the main university entrance; however the police came and beat us and insulted us using gas to disperse us."

Maybe you should start a kids show with a rabbit and have him kill Khaled Meshal with a rabbit sword.

A university woman student said she was attacked by Hamas operatives on campus. The student said she required hospitalization after she was sprayed with chloride.

Hamas police acknowledged that university teachers and students were attacked by officers. Hamas police commander Gen. Tawfiq Jaber said the Fatah-aligned staffers and students had been blocking a main artery outside the campus.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (don't ever tell me there's no humor in Islam) said the Hamas raid was part of its campaign against the opposition Fatah movement. The center urged the Hamas regime to maintain academic freedom in the Gaza Strip.

"PCHR calls upon all parties to keep universities and educational institutions out of the ongoing power struggle between Fatah and Hamas," the group said.

GERTZ:
mig29smt.jpg LONDON -- Algeria has a major problem after learning its new Russian-origin aircraft could not match the F-16s planned for purchase by Morocco.

Industry sources said the Algerian Air Force has been dismayed over the performance of the MiG-29SMT multi-role aircraft delivered by Moscow. The sources said Algiers has assessed that the MiG-29 could not defeat the latest model F-16s approved by Rabat.

"Algeria spent a tremendous amount of money and political capital on modernizing its military and now realizes that it's not enough," a source familiar with Algeria's defense program said.

f16_block50plus.jpg

Algeria has forced Moscow to reacquire 15 MiG-29SMTs after the air force determined that the aircraft contained 1990s fuselages. The air force, which flew each plane for up to 90 hours, determined that the MiGs fell short of their promised performance levels and suspended deliveries. In all, Algeria ordered 26 MiG-29SMT and six MiG-29UB fighters in a $1.3 billion contract.

In contrast, Morocco plans to order 24 F-16 Block 52+ aircraft, the most modern platform in the U.S. Air Force. The multi-role fighters, estimated to cost $2.4 billion, contain radar, avionics, electronic warfare and weapons that are far more advanced than those ordered by Algeria.

"There is no question about it: Morocco's F-16s will dominate the sky," an Algerian defense analyst said.

The Algerian Air Force has higher hopes for Russia's Su-30 fighter. Algiers has ordered 28 Su-30MK fighters for $1.5 billion, and has received four of the aircraft. So far, the air force has no plans to return the Sukhois.

The sources said aides to President Abdul Aziz Bouteflika have urged that Algiers procure Western aircraft. They pointed to France's offer to sell the Rafale fighter-jet, manufactured by Dassault Aviation.

"Algeria is a powerful country with very strong ties to Britain, France and the United States," the analyst said. "There's no reason that Algeria has to settle for cast-off planes."

"The resistance. The Communist resistance - it was brutal, it was ruthless. The Communists were not... It wasn't a bed of roses, but you respect them. You respect them because they resisted the foreign occupiers of their country. They show courage, and they show discipline. I respect that."

You are now taking sides. After all, you are saying that you are only visiting Lebanon, but you don't see the ramification of the July war for the people."

Did you know that that the man who ha signed multiple treaties with the talibanate emirs in the Northwest Territoires, the man who CREATED the Islamic Emirate of Waziristan, the man who turned a blind eye to groups which planned and carried out assassination INSIDE India's legislature, the man who has refused to allow us to question AQ Khan, the man who refused to allow hot pursuit from Afghanistan, is well.....
"Bush administration officials said the United States would still like to see Pakistan's opposition leaders find a way to work with Mr. Musharraf, a staunch ally for more than six years, but conceded that the notion appeared increasingly unlikely."
a STAUNCH ALLY ???

paki_ronaldo.jpgNevermind...the PPP, Bhutto's party has a plurality. A small one. But rather than group with Musharraf however weak, and stupid he is, they have decided to invite Nawaz Sharif's party into a coalition.

Though Mr. Zardari said he wanted a government of national consensus, he ruled out working with anyone from the previous government under Mr. Musharraf.

Instead he said he was talking to the leader of the other main opposition party, Nawaz Sharif, whose party finished second, about forming a coalition.

From an interview in 2006 in Pakistan's Daily Times:

Talking to the Sunday magazine of a national Urdu daily, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader Qazi Hussain Ahmad revealed that he had repeatedly met Osama bin Laden and that the Al Qaeda leader had visited him at Mansoora, the Jamaat headquarters in Lahore. According to him, Osama was willing in 1990 to buy parliamentarians' loyalties to ensure Nawaz Sharif's election as prime minister. Bin Laden had said that if there was a way to buy votes, he was willing to pay for them. Qazi said, "He was a big supporter of IJI (Islami Jamhoori Ittehad) and Nawaz Sharif." He said Bin Laden was also interested in a deal with the JI, which he (Qazi) had declined because he did not agree with Osama's "methods". He also said Bin Laden could not have carried out the 9/11 attacks because he lacked the "ability"; he said the Jews had done it, first giving the day off to all Jews working in the World Trade Centre.
Is Sharif Al Qaeda's perceived asset?
pushtun.jpg
Benazir Bhutto too has accused Nawaz Sharif of taking money from Osama bin Laden to oust her from power. Then we had the most extraordinary event of Ramzi Yusuf trying -- after his attempt at blowing up the World Trade Centre -- to kill her. He failed while the chemicals burnt his hands and he had to be hospitalised. According to reliable sources the attempt (in Karachi) on Ms Bhutto's life was funded by Khalid Shaikh Muhammad -- the man who also funded Al Qaeda's assault on the World Trade Centre in 2001. When Khalid Sheikh Muhammad was finally caught it was at the house of a JI member.
OKAY, maybe the Paki Times was under Musharraf's control? Who knows.
And now La Vie En Rose:

The two opposition parties share similar views of how to tackle the terrorism problem. The new approach is more likely to be responsive to the consensus of the Pakistani public than was Mr. Musharraf's and is more likely to shun a heavy hand by the military and rely on dialogue with the militants.

Mr. Zardari said his party would seek talks with the militants in the tribal areas along the Afghan border, where the Taliban and Al Qaeda have carved out a stronghold, as well as with the nationalist militants who have battled the Pakistani Army in Baluchistan Province.

Many in Pakistan, including several parties that boycotted the elections, have been strongly opposed to Mr. Musharraf's use of the army to battle tribesmen in the name of the campaign against terrorism, which is seen as an American agenda.

"We will have a dialogue with those who are up in the mountains and those who are not in Parliament," Mr. Zardari said. "We want to take all those along who are against Pakistan and working against Pakistan."

Plus c'est les memes choses.

OK fine. This is the will of Pakistan's peoples. And when, as it always has been the case the talks fail? When the guys with the Quranically untrammeled consciences, and racist religious stupidities find their souls stained by 'collaboration' with 'agents' of america?

The people of the United States NEED to be introduced to the idea that the PEOPLES of other nations, NOT SIMPLY THEIR ADMINISTRATIONS, may have inimical desires to what WE need. We don't need xenophobic rage. We don't need demagogic spittle flecked hysteria. We need someone to say...this is a problem we need to think about and think our way through, no matter how uncomfortable it is to consider no KUMBAYA.

If it isn't obvious by now that the final and real position of the global warming freaks is that there are simply too many people, and that's what they are really after, less humans, I don't know what is. The morons are not merely zero sum game pessimists, they are people haters. They are a global version of the blame america firsters.

Midwest Corn Boom Threatens Sea Life

joe-horses_ass03_ecomorons.pngBy HENRY C. JACKSON
Associated Press

JEFFERSON, Iowa — Because of rising demand for ethanol, American farmers are growing more corn than at any time since World War II. And sea life in the Gulf of Mexico is paying the price.

The nation's corn crop is fertilized with millions of pounds of nitrogen-based fertilizer. And when that nitrogen runs off fields in Corn Belt states, it makes its way to the Mississippi River and eventually pours into the Gulf, where it contributes to a growing "dead zone" — a 7,900-square-mile patch so depleted of oxygen that fish, crabs and shrimp suffocate. The dead zone was discovered in 1985 and has grown fairly steadily since then, forcing fishermen to venture farther and farther out to sea to find their catch. For decades, fertilizer has been considered the prime cause of the lifeless spot.

SO IS HUMAN WASTE A CAUSE, even processed. On the river from Iowa south ..care to count the major cities between Dubuque and New Orleans ..like St Louis, Memphis, Natchez, Baton Rouge....say, but how long has that dead zone been there? 1930? 1870? 1950?

With demand for corn booming, some researchers fear the dead zone will expand rapidly, with devastating consequences.

I fear tomorrow my wife will look like the Artist formerly know as prince. With equally likely outcomes.

"We might be coming close to a tipping point," said Matt Rota, director of the water resources program for the New Orleans-based Gulf Restoration Network, an environmental group. "The ecosystem might change or collapse as opposed to being just impacted."

I MIGHT become the emperor of New Orleans, also.

Environmentalists had hoped to cut nitrogen runoff by encouraging farmers to apply less fertilizer and establish buffers along waterways. But the demand for the corn-based fuel additive ethanol has driven up the price for the crop, which is selling for about $4 a bushel, up from a little more than $2 in 2002.

That enticed American farmers — mostly in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota — to plant more than 93 million acres of corn in 2007, the most since 1944. They substituted corn for other crops, or made use of land not previously in cultivation.

I'm sure these same people think Bush is creating a fascist state using fear as a tool. Good for the farmers. Happy for their families.

INVENT AN INDUSTRY to deactivate the fertilizer runoff, jackasses. AND RUN IT ON ETHANOL.

Hey if the world had a first class war and offed 4 billion (a likely scenario) the ensuing famine, disease and struggle would mean all this would stop and nature could just be GAIA again. Isn't that what we all want anyway?

On the heels of Beijing's stunning slap at U.S. ships turned away from Hong Kong, a Chinese general last week said U.S.-China military relations are lagging behind overall U.S.-China ties because of congressional restrictions that were passed in 1999 to prevent China from gaining valuable warfighting knowledge.

Maybe we should just build the weapons they want and give them to the PLA along with instructions written by the guys who create those assembly instructions for furniture you get from THEM.
bozo.jpg
Maj. Gen. Qian Lihua from the Defense Ministry’s foreign affairs office made the comments after meetings in Washington between U.S. and Chinese defense officials.

Qian said that the 1999 congressional restrictions of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Ministry of National Defense “have imposed restrictions on the development of the relations between the two armed forces in 12 areas."

“From the legal point of view, they are obstacles to the development of the relations between the two armed forces,” he said.

The congressional restrictions were passed after U.S. intelligence revealed that China gain valuable warfighting knowledge from the visits, including learning about the vulnerability of U.S. aircraft carriers. A short time after the incident, Beijing was detected purchasing wake-homing torpedoes for its anti-aircraft carrier attack operation.

C'MON, this is actually funny. They are saying if we trusted them enough for them to gain knowledge about how to fight a war (presumably with us) that would prove we are really friends?

Russia Makes 1st Nuke Shipment to Iran

MOSCOW (AP) - Russia has made its first shipment of nuclear fuel to Iran's Bushehr plant, which is at the center of the international tensions over Tehran's nuclear program, the Foreign Ministry said Monday.

lavrov_mottaki_Uranmium.jpg

Iran contends the nuclear power plant operation in Bushehr is strictly for civilian purposes, but the project concerns the United States and others who fear Tehran could use it to advance efforts to build nuclear weapons.

Construction at Bushehr had been frequently delayed. Officials said the delays were due to payment disputes, but many observers suggested Russia also was unhappy with Iran's resistance to international pressure to make its nuclear program more open and to assure the international community that it was not developing nuclear arms.

joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpg

"All fuel that will be delivered will be under the control and guarantees of the International Atomic Energy Agency for the whole time it stays on Iranian territory," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "Moreover, the Iranian side gave additional written guarantees that the fuel will be used only for the Bushehr nuclear power plant."

Russia announced last week that its construction disputes with Iran had been resolved and said fuel deliveries would begin about a half year before Bushehr was expected to go into service.

Iran confirmed that it had received the shipment, the official Iranian news agency IRNA reported.

"The first nuclear fuel shipment for the Bushehr atomic power plant arrived in Iran Monday," IRNA quoted Iranian Vice President Gholam Reza Aghazadeh as saying.

Two weeks ago, a U.S. National Intelligence Estimate report concluded that Iran had halted efforts to develop nuclear weapons in 2003 and that the program had been frozen through at least the middle of this year.

Although Russia has resisted drives to impose sanctions on Iran, it also repeatedly has urged Tehran to cooperate with the Vienna, Austria-based IAEA to resolve concerns over the nuclear program.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov underlined that position last week after a meeting in Moscow with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki.

Lavrov said resolving the controversy is possible "solely on the basis of the nuclear nonproliferation treaty, IAEA rules and principles and, certainly, with Iran proving its right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy."

Officials at Atomstryexport, the Russian contractor for Bushehr, raised the prospect last week of creating a Russian-Iranian joint venture "to ensure security" at the Bushehr plant, according to the RIA-Novosti agency.

That could indicate Russian interest in ensuring that enriched uranium at the plant is not stolen or diverted. Depleted fuel rods also could be reprocessed into plutonium.

HAARETZ: Russia working to lure emigrants back from Israel
By Anshel Pfeffer, Haaretz Correspondent

The Russian Embassy in Tel Aviv is operating a branch of a government body, under the guise of a cultural center, whose goal is to persuade Russian emigrants to return, according to Israeli intelligence sources.
pogrom_kishinev.jpg
The cultural center, which opened about two months ago, is headed by a Russian intellectual, who the intelligence sources believe worked for the Soviet secret service, the KGB. Senior government officials have reportedly expressed concerns recently over the development of "competition" between Russia and Israel over where former Russians choose to reside. The Russian Embassy was unavailable for comment on Sunday. The intelligence bodies are certain that the Russian cultural center that opened two months ago on Geula Street in Tel Aviv is a cover for the local branch of the Sons of the Homeland movement, established by Russian President Vladimir Putin to bring back Russians who emigrated to Israel.

More than three million Russian-speaking Jews are living on five continents. Just over one-third live in Israel. They mostly came in the large wave of immigration that took place after the former Soviet Union opened its gates. After Putin was elected in 2000, he established the Sons of the Homeland to maintain communication between Russia and its emigres, and eventually Putin charged the group with bringing back as many Russians as possible, with an emphasis on those in skilled professions.

pogroms.jpgThe high level of education among many of the Jewish emigres and the fact that they are concentrated in large communities have made them a desirable target for the organization. Putin's goal is not only economic; the millions who have left Russia since the fall of communism are a blow to national pride.

Putin also wants to counter the image of Russian anti-Semitism, by showing the country as a place that attracts Jews.

A number of groups, like the Russian-Speakers Congress, are considered fronts for the Sons of the Homeland.

Russia warns of US missile shield retaliation
mullah_misile.jpg

THE planned deployment of US interceptor missiles in Poland could trigger a missile strike by Russia if those missiles are ever used, the Russian army's chief of staff has warned.

"We are talking about the possibility of a retaliatory strike being triggered by the mistaken classification of an interceptor missile," Yury Baluyevsky said at a press conference broadcast on state television.

Baluyevsky explained that an interceptor missile launched by the United States could be mistaken by Russia's automatic defence system for a ballistic missile aimed against Russia.

"Who is going to take responsibility for an automatic triggering of the system if an interceptor missile is launched from Polish territory through Russia to strike down an Iranian missile?"

"I don't mean to scare anyone but this isn't a scare story.... It's a technical detail that could affect the military stability of the world," Baluyevsky said.

The United States has outlined plans to site 10 interceptor missiles in Poland and a radar base in the Czech Republic by 2012 as part of a missile defence shield aimed at a possible missile threat from Iran, according to Washington.

Russia has said that there is no such threat and that the missile shield can therefore only be aimed at Russia. Russia has vowed to take measures to defend its security against the US plans.

Yes, it's so absurd, to think that certain powers, are not only working against us, but mean the american peple ill without a second thought.
Besides we had better not have missiles which can hit only incoming missiles meant to kill us and our allies, since our enemies are so completely, galactically moronic they write software which cannot discriminate between missiles aimed at other missiles, and missiles aimed at Moscow, and in order to be certain, have to kill everyone even though they don't really mean it. So sorry.
Exsqueeze me, but can the russkies REALLY be that dumb on any of these counts?
The SS-18 in the 80's was so precise, that it's MIRV'd version was judged to be a first strike threat to hardened american silos, and changed our entire strategic structure with far more weight given over towards submarines. That means we rated that it would hit within 250 yards of its target with a LARGE (1 megaton...Hiroshima x 50) nuclear warhead. I think the russkies can program, don't you? So what kind of idiots might be their intended audience with this crap?

Torture: the new abortion

The legality of torture takes over as the political litmus test in campaigns and confirmation hearings.
November 8, 2007

Remember that golden, innocent time -- the 1980s and '90s -- when the phrase "political litmus test" was associated with the debate about abortion rights, and torture was associated with the Spanish Inquisition?

Those days are gone. And, as usual in life, there's good news and bad news. The good news? Abortion isn't nearly as divisive an issue as it used to be. The bad news? For the GOP, torture is the new abortion.

Not too long ago, judicial nominees and political candidates could expect to be grilled on abortion. As the Republican leadership became dominated by right-wing evangelicals, staunch opposition to abortion became a precondition for those seeking support from GOP insiders. Soon, abortion was a litmus test for both parties. Just as Republicans would oppose any candidate or nominee who supported abortion rights, Democrats would oppose anyone who wanted Roe vs. Wade overturned.

Everyone getting it? If you want to be a republican, the litmus test is if you are willing to sanction breaking arms, hot irons, and electrical stimulation of certain parts.
famous_victims2.jpg

That's the painting progressives want to complete of those who in some ways may be to THEIR right, if not on THE right. I feel like I am listening to the truly sci-fi commissars of Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili. Is it supposed to be believable?

Is this the real conclusion of serious people, when it's really waterboarding we're talking about and the 3 men waterboarded in american history since 2001 are ALL mass murderers with 3000 american dead on their hands and active operational knowledge of more operations? Operations not on what we think of as the field of battle, but operations which are aimed at where we live in our quiet little capitalistic, selfish, propertied, privileged,  mini-Eichmann lives, eh?

If methods which some consider distasteful, and others consider illegal, if not torture, lasting AT A MAXIMUM slightly over  140 seconds, on three men, like Khalid Sheik Mohammad, and Ramzi Bin Alshib ...excuse, me but the only way way this is worth getting worked up over, is if people like YOU Rosa Brooks, seek to manufacture  attempts to uncover operations meant to  kill innocent american civilians (like you), into a method to make people on YOUR right, into the Reynhard Heydrich.

Spanish King Tells Chavez to "Shut Up"
SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) - The king of Spain told Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to "shut up" Saturday during a heated exchange at a summit of leaders from Latin America, Spain and Portugal.king of spainD8SR2R2O1.jpg

Chavez, who called President Bush the "devil" on the floor of the United Nations last year, triggered the exchange by repeatedly referring to former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar as a "fascist."

Aznar, a conservative who was an ally of Bush as prime minister, "is a fascist," Chavez said in a speech at the Ibero-American summit in Santiago, Chile. "Fascists are not human. A snake is more human."

Spain's current socialist prime minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, responded during his own allotted time by urging Chavez to be more diplomatic in his words and respect other leaders despite political differences.

"Former President Aznar was democratically elected by the Spanish people and was a legitimate representative of the Spanish people," he said, eliciting applause from the gathered heads of state.

Chavez repeatedly tried to interrupt, but his microphone was off.

Spanish King Juan Carlos, seated next to Zapatero, angrily turned to Chavez and said, "Why don't you shut up?"

The Venezuelan leader did not immediately respond, but later used time ceded to him by his close ally Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega to answer Zapatero's speech.

"I do not offend by telling the truth," he said. "The Venezuelan government reserves the right to respond to any aggression, anywhere, in any space and in any manner."

Seoul - High oil prices have forced energy-strapped North Korea to ground its fleet of ageing Antonov AN-2 biplanes for training flights, it was reported Sunday.

ANTONOV_AN2-Colt-1.jpg

'We understand North Korea has stopped flying AN-2s for a considerable time to funnel the oil for AN-2s to other planes,' South Korean state news agency Yonhap quoted a military source as saying.

The impoverished but heavily-armed Stalinist nation maintains a fleet of almost 300 AN-2 biplanes, developed in the Soviet Union after the Second World War as a multi-function aircraft.

The planes are capable of infiltrating deep into South Korea in case of war, Yonhap quoted the source as saying, with their capability for slow and low-altitude flight enabling them to evade radar detection.

Are you effing kidding me?

North and South Korea remain technically in a state of conflict since the 1950-1953 Korean War, which ended without an official peace agreement.

madscientist_2.jpgThumbnail image for joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpgGERTZ: An Al Qaida website last week provided new information on Osama Bin Laden’s intention to use nuclear weapons.

The Global Islamic Media Front, an Islamist organization that posts online messages and is associated with Al Qaida, published a profile of Bin Laden’s personal habits and statements.

The report stated that when a “brother” would ask him what if the United States “hits us with nuclear weapons,” bin Laden would answer: “If they hit us with them, we will hit them with the same.”

The report said an Egyptian nuclear scientist was commissioned to prepare nuclear weapons and to buy equipment for them prior to the September 11 terrorist attacks.

“Sheikh Osama drew up an implementation program and spent a lot of money on it,” the report said.

laughing_chimps.gif

“The Egyptian scientist tested exploding a miniature nuclear bomb and caused a huge, tremendous explosion, which made the leaders of the mujahidin very happy. Sheikh Osama personally was following the project through its various phases.”

The report said the an Iraqi nuclear scientist named al-Mashhadani and several assistances were sought by the United States and rewards were offered for his capture. He “allegiance to Sheikh Osama Bin Laden and began working with him to aid God's religion,” the report said. “Their supervisor was the aforementioned extraordinary Egyptian scientist.”

Nuclear weapons research was discovered by U.S. military forces in Afghanistan in 2001 after the ouster of the Taliban. Bin Laden has called obtaining nuclear weapons a religious duty for Muslims.
These are probably the same guys who posted that Allah sent flying carpets and dinosaurs to beset the marines in Afghanistan (?) who were so scared they were 'braying like donkeys' ...that sound was laughter, morons.

joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpgHuman race will 'split into two different species

The human race will one day split into two separate species, an attractive, intelligent ruling elite and an underclass of dim-witted, ugly goblin-like creatures, according to a top scientist.

100,000 years into the future, sexual selection could mean that two distinct breeds of human will have developed.

The alarming prediction comes from evolutionary theorist Oliver Curry from the London School of Economics, who says that the human race will have reached its physical peak by the year 3000.

morlocks.jpg

No doubt they are the Eloi and the Morlocks

And we then degenerate into TRUE stupidity for this "Bravo Evolution Report" from the London School of Economics (RU KIDDING ME?)

These humans will be between 6ft and 7ft tall and they will live up to 120 years.

"Physical features will be driven by indicators of health, youth and fertility that men and women have evolved to look for in potential mates," says the report, which suggests that advances in cosmetic surgery and other body modifying techniques will effectively homogenise our appearance.

evolutionPA_800x326.jpg

Men will have symmetrical facial features, deeper voices and bigger penises, according to Curry in a report commissioned for men's satellite TV channel Bravo.

Women will all have glossy hair, smooth hairless skin, large eyes and pert breasts, according to Curry.

I sincerely hope that this study did not cost more than $3.95

The former mufti of Jerusalem, Ikrema Sabri, has made the claim that there never was a Jewish temple on the Temple Mount, and the Western Wall was really part of a mosque.

paratroopers.1967.jpg

"There was never a Jewish temple on Al-Aksa [the mosque compound] and there is no proof that there was ever a temple," he told The Jerusalem Post via a translator. "Because Allah is fair, he would not agree to make Al-Aksa if there were a temple there for others beforehand."

Therefore God is not fair, dude. That's what you just said

Sabri rejected Judaism's claim to the Western Wall as part of the outer wall of the Second Temple.

"The wall is not part of the Jewish temple. It is just the western wall of the mosque," he said. "There is not a single stone with any relation at all to the history of the Hebrews."

western_wall_tunnel_cap_420.jpg

Asked if Jews would ever be allowed to pray on the Temple Mount under Muslim control, he replied: "It is not the Temple Mount, you must say Al-Aksa. And no Jews have the right to pray at the mosque. It was always only a mosque - all 144 dunams, the entire area. No Jewish prayer. If the Jews want real peace, they must not do anything to try to pray on Al-Aksa. Everyone knows that."

This is as useful as morons like Qaradawi saying muslims can kill no innocents in Israel, i.e., there are none, or Sheikh Bin Baz telling us the world is flat until a muslim from space told him otherwise.

How much more embarrassing can it be?

Report: Iran acquiring fighter jets that are based on Israeli technology
JPOST:
Iran has signed a deal with China to purchase 24 J-10 fighter jets between 2008 and 2010, Russian news agency Novosti reported. The jets were developed based on the technology of Israel's Lavi fighter jet, whose technology was sold to China against the wishes of the US.j-10_300.jpg

Novosti stated that the J-10 has a range of 2,940 kilometers, bringing it within range of Israel. Iran's current MiG-29 jets have a range of 2,100 kilometers.

A Russian military expert, quoted by the agency, said that Iran plans to use the new aircraft as part of its defense of the Bushehr nuclear facility in the face of a possible attack.

The Israeli Lavi fighter jet was developed in the 1980s but the project was canceled following pressure from America, which feared that the new jet would compete with its F-16 in international markets. The US subsequently sold F-16s to Israel at reduced costs.

lavi_300_cap.jpg

China began developing the J-10 in 2004 and currently has 89 aircraft in active service.

Novosti added that no response was given by the Prime Minister's office.

So in 2010, Israel might attack Iran and find there planes of Israeli design, with plans sold to china, built there and sold to Iran. Talk about stupid.

Whoever thought selling strategic information and weapons was smart, needs a new mirror

US might delay missile defense sites

PRAGUE, Czech Republic - The United States might delay activating its proposed missile defense sites in EuropeDefense Secretary Robert Gates said Tuesday, until it has "definitive proof" of a missile threat from Iran,
e_naive_cheerleader.jpg

Definitive proof? Would that look something like this?

At a news conference after meeting Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, Gates said this was a proposal to the Russians — who strongly oppose U.S. missile defense — that has yet to be worked out in detail.
"We would consider tying together activation of the sites in Poland and the Czech Republic with definitive proof of the threat — in other words, Iranian missile testing and so on,"
Gates said with Topolanek at his side.

Iran warned on Saturday it would fire off 11,000 rockets at enemy bases within the space of a minute if the United States launched military action against the Islamic republic.bologna.jpg

"In the first minute of an invasion by the enemy, 11,000 rockets and cannons would be fired at enemy bases," said a brigadier general in the elite Revolutionary Guards, Mahmoud Chaharbaghi.

"This volume and speed of firing would continue," added Chaharbaghi, who is commander of artillery and missiles of the Guards' ground forces, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

The United States has never ruled out attacking Iran to end its defiance over the controversial Iranian nuclear programme, which the US alleges is aimed at making nuclear weapons but Iran insists is entirely peaceful.

Iran has for its part vowed never to initiate an attack but has also warned of a crushing response to any act of aggression against its soil.

"If a war breaks out in the future, it will not last long because we will rub their noses in the dirt," said Chaharbaghi.

"Now the enemy should ask themselves how many of their people they are ready to have sacrificed for their stupidity in attacking Iran," he said.

What are the odds that Iran has 11,000 guided missiles like these?

saudi detetnion center.jpg

Call it the anti-Guantánamo. Young Saudis are captured in Iraq waging jihad against the American infidels. But instead of being shipped off to a bleak detention camp in Cuba, they are dispatched to a cozy chalet an hour outside the Saudi capital of Riyadh. Technically it's a detention center, but no one is forced to wear an orange jumpsuit or a blindfold. And far from being condemned to solitary confinement, its occupants are free to roam the landscaped courtyard and play Ping-Pong, volleyball and video games.

Next time I slit someone's throat, remind to shout Allahu Akbar and wear my dishdasha ...

Welcome to the Care Rehabilitation Center, part of a three-year-old experiment to reform malleable minds who have fallen under the sway of Osama bin Laden's radical brand of Islam. To get here, jihadis have to demonstrate during a prison interview a readiness to rethink their extremist views. (About 20% of the 1,875 holy warriors invited to participate have refused.) The program, developed by a team of Islamic scholars, psychiatrists and sociologists, tries to convince these men of their mistakes and make them productive members of Saudi society, which has been rocked by terrorism: al-Qaeda attacks have killed 144 people there over the past four years. By not treating the detainees as criminals, the center seeks to avoid reinforcing their radicalism and turning them into role models for more jihadis.

Hey, maybe it's a 12 step program ..and they have to ask forgiveness from Deborah Burlingame

Although the perimeter is guarded by police, the facility feels like a country club or college campus. Detainees have lots of downtime and soda pop. They spend their days in vocational training, psychological counseling and classroom lectures, most of which are given by religious scholars from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, including the center's director, Sheik Ahmed Hamid Jelan. He walks the detainees through religious texts on jihad--a theological minefield, considering that while the Saudi government forbids fighting in Iraq, it once recruited young Saudis like bin Laden to fight the Russians in Afghanistan. The basic difference, Jelan explains to his charges, is that fighting the Soviets served the interests of Saudi Arabia and the Muslim world, while struggling against the U.S. in Iraq does not. "We answer all the questions about al-Qaeda concepts by referring to the Koran and the message of Islam," says Jelan. "We have dialogue. They become convinced."

GERTZ:
Lobbying for an enhanced U.S. defense relationship with Israel keeps getting tougher.

Conservatives and national security advocates understand the need for a reliable and democratic ally in the Middle East. But the Israel of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, which has been promoting a unilateral withdrawal from the West Bank, is becoming more difficult to promote in the Bush administration and Congress because of the weakness of and divisions within the Jewish state.

"You have leading Israelis tied to the Olmert government actually sabotaging efforts to promote a strong Israel in Washington," a pro-Israel Christian activist said. "It's clear that Olmert has a different agenda than previous Israeli leaders."

Indeed, Olmert has been more comfortable with the anti-Israeli Jewish lobby than with the traditional groups such as the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee and the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs.

Akiva Eldar, a confidante of the Olmert government and political commentator for Israel's Haaretz daily, was invited by the anti-Israel Americans for Peace Now to attack the Bush administration policy in the Middle East. In an address last week, Eldar sounded like the most vicious of anti-Semites who peddle the canard that Jews own America.

Haaretz Editor Says "The Settlers" Control Israel Lobby

by Ezra HaLevi

(IsraelNN.com) For the second time in the course of four weeks, a senior editor of ultra-leftist Haaretz has openly given voice to his radical agenda.

This time it was Akiva Eldar, the paper's senior political editor, who endorsed the recently published book "The Israel Lobby," which alleges that a powerful network of lobby groups and Jewish organizations induce the US to pursue policies that are against its best interests.

Ramzi Yousef, the mastermind of the first terrorist attack on the World Trade
ramzi_yousef_arrest2050081722-8178.jpg Center, claims he converted from Islam to Christianity, Scott Pelley reports in a story that brings viewers inside the secretive "Supermax" prison where he is being held. Pelley also reports that some 900 force feedings were performed on other al-Qaeda terrorists who went on repeated hunger strikes to protest conditions at the Colorado top-security federal prison. The 60 MINUTES segment will be broadcast Sunday Oct. 14 (7:30-9:00 PM, ET/7:00-9:00 PM, PT) on the CBS Television Network.

The prison in Florence, Colo., which the government calls ADX-Florence for Administrative Maximum, houses the nation's toughest and most infamous criminals, such as Olympic bomber Eric Rudolph, would-be 9/11 terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui, Oklahoma City bomber Terry Nichols and shoe bomber Richard Reid. 60 MINUTES obtained exclusive footage of prisoners inside the facility, where special-case prisoners are allowed only a phone call a month, spend 23 hours a day in their 12-by-7 cells and can get mail only from people approved by the prison.

The Oxford Research Group said that any U.S.-British war with Iran would plunge the Middle East into violence. A report by the think tank concluded any U.S. air strike would invite Islamic retaliation against Western interests throughout the region.

"Going to war with Iran will make matters far worse, playing directly into the hands of extreme elements and adding greatly to the violence across the region," the report, released on Monday, said. "Whatever the problems with Iran, war should be avoided at all costs."

Last time I checked, war meant -be prepared to get hurt, but prepare to END THE ENEMIES EXISTANCE, because the point of the war was to effect just exactly that.

The report was released as the British government was said to be discussing war options against Teheran with the United States. British media reports said Prime Minister Gordon Brown has pledged that the British military would help Washington in any attempt to destroy Iran's nuclear weapons program.

The Oxford Research Group urged a reassessment of the Western military strategy against Islamic adversaries. The report said the war against Al Qaida and its allies was failing and called for a Western withdrawal from Afghanistan and Iraq.

"If the Al Qaida movement is to be countered, then the roots of its support must be understood and

laughing_chimps.gif

systematically undercut," said Paul Rogers, the report's author and professor of global peace studies at Bradford University in northern England. "Combined with conventional policing and security measures, Al Qaida can be contained and minimised but this will require a change in policy at every level."

Entitled "Alternatives to the War on Terror," the think tank said Iran and its ally Syria must be wooed by the West through diplomacy. Rogers said Islamic insurgency groups in Afganistan should be granted aid in an attempt to turn them into political partners.

"Failure to make the necessary changes could result in the war on terror lasting decades," the report said.

Leak Severed a Link to Al-Qaeda's Secrets
Firm Says Administration's Handling of Video Ruined Its Spying Efforts

By Joby Warrick
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, October 9, 2007; A01

A small private intelligence company that monitors Islamic terrorist groups obtained a new Osama bin Laden

claude_shocked.jpg

video ahead of its official release last month, and around 10 a.m. on Sept. 7, it notified the Bush administration of its secret acquisition. It gave two senior officials access on the condition that the officials not reveal they had it until the al-Qaeda release.

Within 20 minutes, a range of intelligence agencies had begun downloading it from the company's Web site. By midafternoon that day, the video and a transcript of its audio track had been leaked from within the Bush administration to cable television news and broadcast worldwide.

The founder of the company, the SITE Intelligence Group, says this premature disclosure tipped al-Qaeda to a security breach and destroyed a years-long surveillance operation that the company has used to intercept and pass along secret messages, videos and advance warnings of suicide bombings from the terrorist group's communications network.

If a democratic administration was responsible for this kind of leak, or Dick Durbin's office (for instance), cries of TREASON would fill the air.

"Techniques that took years to develop are now ineffective and worthless," said Rita Katz, the firm's 44-year-old founder, who has garnered wide attention by publicizing statements and videos from extremist chat rooms and Web sites, while attracting controversy over the secrecy of SITE's methodology. Her firm provides intelligence about terrorist groups to a wide range of paying clients, including private firms and military and intelligence agencies from the United States and several other countries.

The precise source of the leak remains unknown. Government officials declined to be interviewed about the circumstances on the record, but they did not challenge Katz's version of events. They also said the incident had no effect on U.S. intelligence-gathering efforts and did not diminish the government's ability to anticipate attacks.

While acknowledging that SITE had achieved success, the officials said U.S. agencies have their own sophisticated means of watching al-Qaeda on the Web. "We have individuals in the right places dealing with all these issues, across all 16 intelligence agencies," said Ross Feinstein, spokesman for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

You just have VERY LIMITED CREDIBILITY on this, don't you get it, admin? Hasn't the experience over the 'immigration' issue demonstrated this to you?

But privately, some intelligence officials called the incident regrettable, and one official said SITE had been "tremendously helpful" in ferreting out al-Qaeda secrets over time.

The al-Qaeda video aired on Sept. 7 attracted international attention as the first new video message from the group's leader in three years. In it, a dark-bearded bin Laden urges Americans to convert to Islam and predicts failure for the Bush administration in Iraq and Afghanistan. The video was aired on hundreds of Western news Web sites nearly a full day before its release by a distribution company linked to al-Qaeda.

Computer logs and records reviewed by The Washington Post support SITE's claim that it snatched the video from al-Qaeda days beforehand. Katz requested that the precise date and details of the acquisition not be made public, saying such disclosures could reveal sensitive details about the company's methods.

SITE -- an acronym for the Search for International Terrorist Entities -- was established in 2002 with the stated goal of tracking and exposing terrorist groups, according to the company's Web site. Katz, an Iraqi-born Israeli citizen whose father was executed by Saddam Hussein in the 1960s, has made the investigation of terrorist groups a passionate quest.

"We were able to establish sources that provided us with unique and important information into al-Qaeda's hidden world," Katz said. Her company's income is drawn from subscriber fees and contracts.

Katz said she decided to offer an advance copy of the bin Laden video to the White House without charge so officials there could prepare for its eventual release.

She spoke first with White House counsel Fred F. Fielding, whom she had previously met, and then with Joel Bagnal, deputy assistant to the president for homeland security. Both expressed interest in obtaining a copy, and Bagnal suggested that she send a copy to Michael Leiter, who holds the No. 2 job at the National Counterterrorism Center.

Administration and intelligence officials would not comment on whether they had obtained the video separately. Katz said Fielding and Bagnal made it clear to her that the White House did not possess a copy at the time she offered hers.

Around 10 a.m. on Sept. 7, Katz sent both Leiter and Fielding an e-mail with a link to a private SITE Web page containing the video and an English transcript. "Please understand the necessity for secrecy," Katz wrote in her e-mail. "We ask you not to distribute . . . [as] it could harm our investigations."

joe-horses_ass03_copy.jpg

Fielding replied with an e-mail expressing gratitude to Katz. "It is you who deserves the thanks," he wrote, according to a copy of the message. There was no record of a response from Leiter or the national intelligence director's office.

Exactly what happened next is unclear. But within minutes of Katz's e-mail to the White House, government-registered computers began downloading the video from SITE's server, according to a log of file transfers. The records show dozens of downloads over the next three hours from computers with addresses registered to defense and intelligence agencies.

By midafternoon, several television news networks reported obtaining copies of the transcript. A copy posted around 3 p.m. on Fox News's Web site referred to SITE and included page markers identical to those used by the group. "This confirms that the U.S. government was responsible for the leak of this document," Katz wrote in an e-mail to Leiter at 5 p.m.

Al-Qaeda supporters, now alerted to the intrusion into their secret network, put up new obstacles that prevented SITE from gaining the kind of access it had obtained in the past, according to Katz.

A small number of private intelligence companies compete with SITE in scouring terrorists' networks for information and messages, and some have questioned the company's motives and methods, including the claim that its access to al-Qaeda's network was unique. One competitor, Ben Venzke, founder of IntelCenter, said he questions SITE's decision -- as described by Katz -- to offer the video to White House policymakers rather than quietly share it with intelligence analysts.

"It is not just about getting the video first," Venzke said. "It is about having the proper methods and procedures in place to make sure that the appropriate intelligence gets to where it needs to go in the intelligence community and elsewhere in order to support ongoing counterterrorism operations."

Carter: Iran No Threat to Israel Now
rafsanjani_sm.jpgATLANTA (AP) - Former President Jimmy Carter said Wednesday that it was almost inconceivable that Iran would "commit suicide" by launching missiles at Israel.

Speaking at Emory University, Carter, who brokered the 1979 Camp David peace accord between Israel and Egypt, said Israel's superior military power and distance from Iran likely are enough to discourage an actual attack.

"Iran is quite distant from Israel," said Carter, 83. "I think it would be almost inconceivable that Iran would commit suicide by launching one or two missiles of any kind against the nation of Israel."

Wow, I'm sure they feel better in Jerusalem now !

Carter said unease between Israel and Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank is a far greater threat to Israel's security than Iran. He criticized the Bush administration for not doing enough to broker peace in the region.

U.N. rights chief sees bigotry in Europe on IslamTheo-van-Gogh-Halal-Slagtet.gif

GENEVA (Reuters) - United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour said on Monday that bigotry and prejudice, especially in regard to Muslims, were common in Europe and called on governments to tackle the issue.
How about Theo Van Gogh's 'prejudice'?

The remarks from the former Canadian Supreme Court judge, which came in the wake of similar charges issued last week by a U.N. rights investigator, were quickly challenged by a leading global non-religious grouping.
How about the honor killings and enforced clitorectomies?

The report by investigator Doudou Diene of Senegal

learn_how_to_apologize2.jpg

documented what he called an alarming rise in intolerance, and in particular Islamophobia, in European

countries, and Arbour said, "I have no reason not to share his concerns."

Europeans "are shocked at times when it is pointed out that bigotry, prejudice and stereotyping is still sometimes very present in their attitude to others," she said.

How about the rights inherent in freedom of expression, and therefore of religion, such as those concering Lars Vilks?

What in the world are these people thinking of?

I have no doubt that there are bigots in Europe as there are everywhere, the the threat to European nations states today does not come primarily from such a direction.

SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. – On the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, students at one high school were not allowed to wear clothes with an American Flag. UPDATE BELOW EVEN MORE STUPID THAN THIS STORY !

Under a new school rule, students at Hobbton High School are not allowed to wear items with flags, from any country, including the United States.

The new rule stems from a controversy over students wearing shirts bearing flags of other countries. Gayle Langston said her daughter, Jessica, was told to remove her stars and stripes t-shirt.

“Today she wanted to wear her shirt, and I had to tell her no,” said Langston. “She didn't like it at all because I knew it would get her in trouble. Of all days, 9/11, she could not wear her American Flag shirt.”

The superintendent of schools in Sampson County calls the situation unfortunate, but says educators didn’t want to be forced to pick and choose which flags should be permissible.

How about ours, you horses asses?

SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. – Officials at Hobbton High School have lifted their previous ban on flags.

After the numerous reactions recieved Superintendent Dr. L. Stewart Hobbs, Jr. tells NBC17 they have lifted the ban on all flags and “from this point on, all dress code chages will be made at the school board level.”

Now, you can wear your Al Qaeda black flag t shirt on 9-11.

Not naive, not stupid, what?

NEW YORK (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is proposing an international organization to fight terrorism through shared intelligence - cooperation that he says will combat the dangers facing the United States where President Bush has failed.

"We need a counterterrorism policy that will actually counter terrorism," Edwards said in remarks prepared for delivery at Pace University. "We've got to throw away the failed George Bush policies of the past, and move in a bold new direction."

The 2004 vice presidential nominee was delivering his speech four days before the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, not far from Ground Zero.

Internationally we can't even get the UN to condemn arabs blowing up jewish kids on a schoolbus in Israel as BEING terrorism. Can you imagine getting them to share intelligence on what they perceive to be just?

The other america must be where the remedial educaton is taking place.

US Democratic hopeful Kucinich meets Assad, blasts Bush

US Democratic presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich, on a Mideast visit that included a stop in Syria, said the country lambasted by the Bush administration deserves credit for taking in more than a million Iraqi refugees

Kucinich, a strong anti-war opponent who trails far in the US presidential polls, also said he won't visit Iraq on his trip to the region because he considers the US military deployment there illegal.

I feel the United States is engaging in an illegal occupation ... I don't want to bless that occupation with my presence," he said in an interview in Lebanon, after visiting Syria. "I will not do it."

Kucinich, who accused the Bush administration of policies that have destabilized the Mideast, met with Syrian President Bashar Assad during his visit to Damascus. He said Assad was receptive to his ideas of "strength through peace."

He also praised Syria for taking in Iraqi refugees.

"What most people are not aware of is that Syria has taken in more than 1.5 million Iraqi refugees," Kucinich said. "The Syrian government has actually shown a lot of compassion in keeping its doors open, and being a host for so many refugees."

Kucinich said he would ask UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to follow up on the "dire conditions" in southern Lebanon, especially Israeli cluster bombs leftover from the war that have killed more than 30 and injured at least 200 since the fighting's end.

"There has to be a commitment to cleaning up these cluster bombs," Kucinich said.

What do you think Harry Truman and Franklin Roosevelt are thinking right now?

This man who goes to Syria to sympathize with genocidal murderers, who also help kill americans, is there to criticize the USA for selfish partisan reasons.

Dennis Kucinich is running for president of the United States.

He has no dignity, and less honor.

BBC:

Iran has resolved questions posed by the UN's nuclear watchdog about its plutonium experiments, Tehran says.

The claim was made in a text outlining a timetable for co-operation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, which was agreed at talks last week.

It would be the first serious issue closed by the IAEA during its four-year inquiry into Iran's nuclear activities.

Western powers suspect Iran of building a nuclear weapons capability. Tehran says its nuclear programme is peaceful.

The UN Security Council has already imposed two rounds of sanctions against Iran for defying its calls to halt uranium enrichment and plutonium reprocessing, and answer IAEA questions.

'Real limitations'

The five-page text of the Iran-IAEA accord was released in Vienna on Monday.

It said the IAEA accepted that "earlier statements made by Iran [on the issue of plutonium] are consistent with the agency's findings, and thus this matter is resolved."

Iran also said it would co-operate on resolving concerns over documents that allegedly show Iran has a secret military project for developing nuclear arms.

However, it dismissed the claims as "politically motivated" and "baseless allegations".

Last week, Iran and the IAEA announced that they had agreed a timeline for implementing a plan to clarify Tehran's nuclear programme, first announced in July.

And right after that they agreed to appoint a commission to plan to decide when the discussion over the shape of the table the timeline discussion will eventually take place at, would be discussed, pending the General Assembly meeting later this fall.

However, US envoy to the IAEA, Gregory Schulte, said the plan had "real limitations" and accused Iran of manipulating the IAEA as a way to avoid harsher sanctions.

He said Iran was still defying the UN's key demand for it to halt its uranium enrichment activities and said the US would continue to push for a third round of sanctions.

U.S. missile shield is provocation: Austrian minister

VIENNA (Reuters) - Austrian Defense Minister Norbert Darabos has called U.S. plans for a missile defense shield in eastern Europe a "provocation" reviving Cold War debates.

"That the United States are installing a defense shield in eastern Europe is a provocation in my view," Darabos was quoted as saying in an interview with daily Die Presse on Thursday.

"The U.S. has chosen the wrong path in my opinion. There is no point in building up a missile defense shield in Europe.

U.S. still selling banner F-14 parts sought by Iran

GERTZ : WASHINGTON — The Defense Department sold 1,400 F-14 spare parts in 2007 despite a ban on such transactions, according to a GAO report.

The Pentagon sold the parts in February in wake of its announcement of a suspension of any transfer of F-14 components.

"One country with operational F-14s, Iran, is known to be seeking these parts," Greg Kutz, managing director of special investigations for the Government Accountability Office, said. "If such parts were publicly available, it could jeopardize national security."

On Aug. 1, GAO released a report that disclosed continuing Pentagon sales of F-14 components. The Pentagon decision in January 2007 to block F-14 spare parts sales took place amid intelligence information that Iran was seeking to overhaul its F-14 fleet. The Iranian fleet was procured from the United States more than 30 years ago.

The report cited the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service, the Pentagon's surplus sales division, as responsible for the sale of F-14 spare parts. DRMS was said to have failed to update an automated control list and remove F-14 aircraft parts listed on the agency's Internet sales site.

The disclosure of the F-14 spare parts sale has alarmed members of Congress. Sen. Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat, has won House approval for legislation that would suspend sales of all F-14 parts. The bill has been pending in the Senate.
